Maynard R. Wellman, 76, of 818 Calvert St., a letter carrier for the Rome Post Office for 38 years before retiring in 1962, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 1979, in Rome Hospital after a brief illness. Born Dec. 29, 1902, in the Town of Annsville, he was the son of Clark and Lillian Adey Wellman. On Oct. 11, 1922, he married Nellie Mansfield in Rome. She died May 13, 1928. On Sep. 16, 1930, he married Sarah Ferguson in Rome. Mr. Wellman was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the National Letter Carriers Association and the Modern Woodsmen of America. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Eileen) McHale, Winterpark, Fla., Mrs. Earl (Marion) Raines, Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Casey, Saratoga Springs, three sons, Maynard Wellman, Ann Arbor, Mich., Ronald O. Wellman, Rome, and Bruce A. Wellman, New Hartford, a sister, Mrs. Jessie Williams, Lee, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Thursday at the Griffin & Aldridge Funeral Home. Burial in Rome Cemetery.
