February 13, 1995Vienna - John D. Royce, 75, of Route 49, died Sunday, February 12, 1995, in Rome Hospital where he had been a patient since February 8.
He was born in Utica, NY, March 10, 1919 and had lived in the Vienna area since childhood. Mr. Royce graduated from the Camden High School in 1938 and served in the US Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific Theatre. On November 24, 1945 he married Nettie Brown in Utica.
Mr. Royce had worked with Revere Copper and Brass from 1940 to 1958, From 1956 to 1971 he was a self-employed dairy farmer and truck driver, continuing his truck driving operation until his death.
He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, the Vienna Fire Department, the Sylvan Beach American Legion and the Michael S. Plesick V. F. W. Post, Herkimer.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Jeannie Zimmerman of Remsen, Mrs. Ronald (Ellen( Turk of Camden, mrs. Gary (Donnette) Skellington of Altmar, three sons, John D. Royce Jr., Camden, Robert W. Royce of Blossvale and Timothy S. Royce of Canastota, one sister, Alyce Schiller, Tamarock, Fla., one brother, Elmer H. Royce, Johnson City, Ill., 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Sandra Congden on January 12, 1994 and one son, Orville "Buddy" Royce December 15, 1962.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
