On July 28, 1957, Leland H. Loomis, RD 1 Blossvale, lost three children in a car crash that claimed six lives, the worst auto accident in Oneida County in 20 years. At 7:25 this morning Loomis, 60, lost his life from injuries suffered in a two-car crash about 6 hours earlier. The 1957 smash-up occurred on Route 49, just west of Vienna Corners. Today's accident was on Pine Road, just off Rte. 49, about a mile from the scene of the first crash.

Loomis was the driver of a car which collided at the top of a knoll with a vehicle operated by Miss Louse Lucarelli, 19, of 4 Maple Ave, Canastota. State Trooper M. M. Martin said he and a passerby worked for 40 minutes to free Loomis from this morning's wreckage. Loomis was reportedly conscious at the time. He was pronounced dead at Syracuse Memorial Hospital.

Miss Lucarelli was released from Oneida City Hospital following treatment for minor abrasions. A passenger in her car, Richard Fox, 25, Rd 3, Rome, complained of injuries and was transferred to Griffiss AFB Hospital.

Ronald Loomis, 18, a passenger in his father's car, suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized. Dr.James Wilson, sylvan Beach, gave emergency treatment at the scene before Leland Loomis, Miss Lucarelli and Fox were taken to Oneida City Hospital in a Sanborn ambulance.
