M. Patrick Fahey, 62, of 815 N. George St., an employee of Rome Developmental Center and a former Rome policeman, died Monday, April 21, 1980 in Rome Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Fahey had worked at RDC for the past eight years.

He joined the Rome Police Department on July 31, 1958. In 1965 he was cited by then Public Safety Commissioner Abraham H. Baker for acting "carefully, prudently and courageously" while investigating a case involved an armed man in the Mohawk Sports Shop.

Mr. Fahey was commended when he arrested a suspect who, according to police reports, threatened the patrolman with a rifle when the latter entered the sports shop to investigate a report it had been broken into. Mr. Fahey resigned from the department in 1967.

Born Jan. 9, 1928, in Rome, he was the son of Milo P. and Kathleen Hollister Fahey. A 1946 graduate of Rome Free Academy, he attended Utica College and was taking courses at the State University College of Technology at Utica - Rome.

He married Jean Richardson in Rome. He later married Jeanette Anderson in West Haven, Conn. Mr. Fahey was a veteran having served in the Army in Europe.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Paul R. (Judy) Shampine, Rome, and Miss Holly Fahey, at home, a step-daughter, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Hunter, Vernon, three sons, Timothy J. Fahey, Rome, Kevin M. Fahey, Herkimer, and Stephen M. Fahey at home, a stepson, Robert S. Spargo Jr., Rome, three sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Patenaude, Holland Patent, Mrs. Elaine Mayberry, Rome, and Mrs. Donald (Gail) Mullen, Floyd, and a brother, Roger L. Fahey, ROme.

Services will be held Thursday at the Martin J.Nunn Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
