Coonrad, Mary Richards

Rome Sentinel
November 20, 1911

Mrs. George H. Coonrad died at 6:40 am on Sunday at her home, 329 W. Dominick Street. She had been ill for the past ten weeks and her death occurred on the twenty-third anniversary of her marriage. On Monday, November 13, Mrs. Coonrad was severely shocked by the death of her father, John J. Richards, who was killed on the Central railroad, near the E. Whitesboro street crossing while on his way to work. The funeral was held on Thursday and, although not feeling well, Mrs. Coonrad insisted on attending it. She caught cold and on Friday went to bed, failing rapidly till death came.

Born in Catasaqua, Pa, 46 years ago March 2 last, Mrs. Coonrad came to this city with her parents, mr. and Mrs. John J. Richards, when an infant. All her life except four or five years had since been spent in Rome, where on November 19, 1888 she was married to George H. Coonrad. She is survived by her husband, one son, George Lyle, her mother, Mrs. John J. Richards, two sisters, Mrs. Charles M. Williams of this city and Mrs. E. W. Parry of Utica, and one brother, John E. Richards of Schenectady.

Mrs. Coonrad was an earnest member of the Presbyterian Church and also a member of Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge, IOOF. In this lodge she had filled the various offices and had also served as district deputy president. She was kind and charitable, always ready to aid those who appealed to her. Her death will be sincerely regretted by many friends and the bereaves and deeply afflicted family have the sympathy of a host of friends.
