Stasia A. Carpenter, age 90, of 7628 Tannery Road, Rome, died Saturday, November 19, 1994, at SUNY Health Center after a brief illness. She was born February 6, 1904 in Rome, the daughter of George & Sarah Mahoney Smith, Stasia was united in marriage to Melvin Cyrus Carpenter on December 28, 1924, at St. Peter's Church in Rome. After a marriage of 40 yrs he passed away May 23, 1964. She was employed for many years at the Elks Club and the Rome Club. Upon retiring in 1980 she cared for her handicapped son, Tony, and also her special friends in their homes. She was an avid gardner and she loved the outdoors.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Alfred Eastup of Rome, six sons and their wives, Edward of McConnellsville, Richard and Rita of Lee center, Joe and Dianne of Rome, Denny and Sandy of Verona Beach, Butch and Pat of Rome, and Tony at home. She was predeceased by one daughter, Edith Carrier, two sons, Robert & James, one daughter-in-law, Sally Carpenter, and one granddaughter, Becky (Eastup) Dean. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, also a niece and nephew. Stasia also leaves a very special companion, her fat cat.
