October 6, 1974Robert P. Carpenter, 38, of 9102 Blossvale Road, Taberg, died Sunday in Rome Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 19, 1936 in Rome, son of Melvin and Anastasia Smith Carpenter. He attended Rome schools. On Jan. 9, 1960 he married Joan M. Collins in St. Patrick's Church, Taberg. The couple had lived in Taberg for the past 10 years and prior to that in Rome and Camden.
Mr. Carpenter was employed at the Camden Wire Co. for 10 years until illness forced him to retire in 1969. He previously had been employed by the Neil Brodock Construction Co.
From 1953 to 1957 he served in the Navy in the pacific theater aboard the USS Darby and the USS Tritten. Mr. Carpenter was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Taberg, and the Meeker - O'Rourke Post, American Legion, Taberg.
Surviving besides his wife and mother of Rome, are three daughters, Miss Catherine M. Carpenter, Miss Anastasia M. Carpenter and Miss Debra L. Carpenter, all at home, two sisters, Mrs. Ansel E. (Edith) Carrier, and Mrs. Albert C. (Mary) Eastup, both of Rome and seven brothers, Richard P. Carpenter of Lee Center and Edward S. Carpenter, James C. Carpenter, Bernard C. Carpenter, Neil M. Carpenter, Dennis Carpenter, and Anthony Carpenter all of Rome.
Funeral services will be held at 9 Wednesday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home and at 10 at St. Patrick's Church, Taberg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
