James G. Armstrong, 62, Lowell-Westmoreland Road, a foreman with the Oneida County Highway Dept. for the past 12 years, died Wednesday in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 4, 1904, in Taberg and attended local schools. He married Kathleen Patterson in Rome on April 8, 1933. Mr. Armstrong was with the Town of Westmoreland Highway Department for several years before joining the county department in 1954. He had lived in Westmoreland for more than 21 years, earlier having been a resident of Holland Patent and Taberg. He was a member of the Westmoreland Methodist CHurch. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Mrs. LaMont B. (Kathleen) Smith Jr., Westmoreland, six sisters, Mrs. Edwin L. (Mabel) Marggi and Mrs. Samuel (Alice) O'Dell, both of Westmoreland, Mrs. Claude (Emma) Hicks and Mrs. Charles (Ruth) O'Connor, both of Rome, Mrs. George (Bessie) McCann, Taberg, and Mrs. George J. (Bertha) Bennet, Kodiak, Alaska, four brothers, Jess and Frank Armstrong, both of Blossvale, twin brothers, Elmer and Elsworth Armstrong, both of Lee Center, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home. Burial in Rome Cemetery.
