Frank Armstrong, 57, of Railroad St., Taberg, was found dead at 10 last night after he apparently fell 40 feet from the edge of a ravine into the east branch of Fish Creek in Blossvale. Armstrong was reported missing at 1 pm by his daughter and a search by the Sheriff's Department began at 7 last night. Sheriff's Sgt. John Cheynoweth discovered Armstrong wedged against the base of a tree 40 feet below the lip of the 100 foot gorge in Blossvale. His body was recovered with the aid of ropes, the Sheriff's Department said. Sheriff's Deputy Duane Croop assisted in the search. An autopsy was conducted at Rome Hospital today. Coroner Thomas A. Cox has withheld a decision on the death.

Mr. Armstrong was born Nov. 21, 1912, in Taberg, son of Benjamin and Alice Mansfield Armstrong. He attended Taberg schools. He was married twice. In Sep. 1936 he married Olive Joslyn who died in 1958. He later married Hazel Howard.

A year ago Mr. Armstrong retired from the Finster Roofing Co. Armstrong was a member of the Taberg Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife are six daughters, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Finster, Camden, Mrs. Theodore (Marjorie) Kopec, Taberg, Mrs. Winton (Frances) Webster, Texas, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie) Fox, Westernville, Mrs. Samuel (Avenna) Evans Jr., Texas, Mrs. Donald (Bessie) Craven, Lakeland, Florida, five sons, John P. Armstrong, McConnellsville, Erwin Armstrong, Rome, James J. Armstrong, Lee Center, Cpl. Benjamin Armstrong, who recently completed a tour with the Marines in Vietnam, Lance Cpl. Thomas Armstrong, serving with the Marines in Japan, six sisters, Emma Hicks, Mrs. C. B. (Ruth) Connor, both of Rome, Mrs. George (Bessie) McCann, Taberg, Mrs. Samuel (Alice) O'Dell, and Mrs. Edward L. (Mabel) Marggi, both of Westmoreland, Mrs. George (Bertha) Bennett, Kodiak, Alaska, two brothers, Elmer Armstrong, Lee Center, Ellsworth Armstrong, Taberg, and 30 grandchildren. Two other brothers are deceased, James G. Aug. 10, 1966, Jesse Dec. 8, 1968. Funeral will be at the Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home. Interment in McConnellsville.
