Headlines - page 1: 5 Dead, 3 Hurt in West Branch Auto Accident:

Fog of Mystery Clouds Mishap at West Branch. Oficials seek information on how two machines came together. Damage to cars present puzzle, one hit on left side, other on right, one may have been turning around. Both cars were demolished. It is believed the Miller machine had been going north and was turning about to return to a reuinion being held at the home of Edwin Williams, brother of Mrs. Wallace W. Miller, mother of the two brothers, at Quaker Hill. The Young car carrying as passengers Mr. & Mrs. Jenks and Miss Briggs, is thought to have been traveling north. The Miller machine shows signs of impact on its right front and along its right side. The Young automobile's front is caved in and its entire left side struck a severe blow. The machine landed about 30 feet north of the driveway, the Young car pointing north on the east side of the highway on the shoulder of the road and the coach at an angle to the road across from the other car, and with its front end against a highway safety fence. Clarence Miller, who died at 8:20 pm, had a fracture at the base of the skull, his right eye was torn out, the roof of his mouth was fractured, his neck was broken and right knee was fractured. The Miller infant had a compound fracture of the skull, both legs were broken and there were internal chest and abdominal injuries. For several hours after the accident the identity of the victims and the injured was shrouded in doubt. Identity finally was established at the Rome Hospital where Jesse John Miller could talk, although somewhat incoherently. He kept insisting two other Miller children, his own, were with him. This later proved to be incorrect. The traffic became congested at the scene and was completely halted for some time. More than 250 cars were parked along the road and in fields. The Miller car belongs to Lloyd John Miller, 24, brother of the two Miller victims, and had been taken with permission by Jesse John Miller to take a ride.

The Miller brothers:

Clarence Miller was born July 15, 1921 and was the twin of Clara Miller who left Saturday on a weeks vacation at Panther Lake. Edwin Miller was three last November 22.
