SIMEON
LORD
1771-1840
Simeon
was the fourth child of Simeon Lord and Ann Fielden, yeoman farmers
who lived at Dobroyd, Todmorden. His uncle on his mother's side
was Joshua Fielden of Edge End, founder of the Fielden dynasty of
Merchant Princes in Todmorden. In 1790 he was found guilty of stealing
100 yards of cotton cloth to the value of six pence and 100 yards
of calico to the value of four pence. He was transported to Australia
for 7 years. He worked his way up and became one of the most influential
merchants of Sydney.
His
illustrated biography has been written by Belinda Cohen and appears
on her website, shown below, and there is nothing further I can
add.
