Fielden papers 14th November 1842

John Fielden ordered young Sammy Clegg to buy the following articles and bring invoices to the Fielden Bros to pay them. Then bring a stock account at a month hence to show if loss or gain on business. Told him to say to creditors to wait until it was seen if he and his assistants could manage the business – if so, the debts would ultimately be paid. Told him also to get in debts owing to his father and pay off what he can. List of goods wanted for the Rope Walk: 1 hatchet to cut old bale ropes; 1 truck to fetch and carry goods; half a ton of Polish Rhines Hemp, this is the best quality; old ropes; oil for dressing the hemp; sweet oil for oiling the wheels; rovings; and tallons to put on the twine.

(Samuel Clegg's father, John Clegg, died December 1842)
