Notes from John Travis, contemporary historian:

Horsfall & Stephenson built a weaving shed for 200 looms and engine house etc. for their own use on a plot of land in Vale Street, Tipside, near the JOINT STOCK MILL engine house.

30th August 1897

Mr. Luke Horsfall of Manchester, formerly of Byrom Street, died suddenly whilst on a visit to the Isle of Man, having left Manchester for that place on 17th August. On Thursday August 26th he was taken ill and died 4 days after from violent diarrhoea, at the age of 70 years. Whilst resident in Todmorden Mr. Horsfall was a manufacturer at Rose Street Mill (now used as the drill hall), under the style of the firm Horsfall & Stephenson. He was interred at Cross Stone Church on September 3rd.
