The Mason family appears in the census returns for the area of Beeton, Stansfield, from 1851 to 1901. James Mason senior, James Mason junior, and William Mason (son of James junior) were all rope and twine makers.

Sir,

If at any time the house at Tankside, Lob Mill, now occupied by Mrs. Greenwood, should become vacant, we think it would be a very rentable house for us as we are the occupiers of the Rope Works at Lob Mill and it would be more convenient for our business. I should be greatly obliged if you would consider this if at any time it should become vacant.
