One of the saddest accidents that the journalist is called upon
to chronicle occurred in Wilson County last week. Miss Sallie L. CARNEY
went out to her father's garden to superintend some Negroes who were
gathering salad for dinner. The young lady discovered a plant which she
thought to be wild lettuce. Plucking a small piece of the green top,
she ate it to satisfy herself that it was really wild lettuce. From
this time she steadily grew worse suffering the most excruciating pain
until Monday morning when she breathed her last..
