Carlos CLAY Family History

Carlos Clay Family
Submitted by Jaquelin Clay Fisher

Wilson Co in my family history: My grandfather, Carlos Green Clay and his four children by his first wife (name not known) left Wilson Co around 1910 or so. His wife had tuberculosis and they moved first to Arizona, which is where, I believe, she died. He then moved with his children to California and married Margaret McKee, originally from Murfreesboro. They had two children, and their descendents are mainly in California, with the exception of me, in London (another story!)

The Clays of Wilson Co seem to have come from Lunenberg Co, Virginia. The first Carlos Clay is shown in a will dated 1825 in Lunenberg Co. The family seems to have left there by around 1830, because the various names then disappear from the county census, and my next record is the marriage of a Carlos Clay to Salina G Taylor in Wilson Co on 2 October 1849. My other Wilson Co reference is a will dated 11 May 1879 of Mitchell Clay, in which Carlos G Clay is an heir.

I would love to fill in more of the gaps; I do have a store of family folklore, which at least gives me some of the family names and a few apocryphal stories. These have helped, because I was able to use the first names to confirm various lines. If anyone has information that links in with this, I would be delighted to receive it. Wilson Co census data on line would be a big help.
