Know all men by these presents that I, John Everett, Jr. of Davidson County and State of Tennessee have this day received of John Hardeman of Oglethorpe County and State of Georgia the sum of two hundred dollars special it being in full of a legacy left to my mother Esther Everett formerly Esther Hardeman as appears by the will of my grandfather John Hardeman of Guilford County North Carolina deceased which said will doth express that Esther's part, that is my mother, be lent to her during her natural life and then to be given to her heirs of her Body and I the said John Everett being one of the heirs of the said Esther now deceased has for myself and agent for my sisters and brother, to Wit, Comfort, Dorothy, Susannah, Lydia, Betsey and Thomas Bargained and sold to the said John Hardeman deceased for the aforesaid sum of two hundred dollars and whereas my Sisters and, to wit, Comfort, Dorothy, Lydia and Susannah have sent orders by me Directed to the Executors of the Estate of John Hardeman Deceased which said Order is taken up by John Hardeman of Oglethorpe county aforesaid and as my Sister Betsy and Brother Thomas are at present Minors and not capable of acting for themselves and their part of the Estate before mentioned is paid into my hands is without their orders - I do hereby bind myself my heirs etc. unto the said John Hardeman in the Sum of Five hundred Dollars to procure their receipts for the Sum of Five hundred Dollars shall be recoverable by the said John Hardeman if he or his heirs shall sustain damage by either of the aforesaid Legatees. Recovering any part of the Estate of John Hardeman aforesaid Deceased In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twelfth day may in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and ninety Eight.
