NOTE:  According to his DEPOSITION of Dec. 2, 1898 to the Commissioner of Pensions for William Issam Hensley's claim, he provides a brief explanation of his acquaintance of applicant, the political climate and allegiance of the locals up to and during the Civil War.  He explains he supported the Union but was conscripted through force to serve in the 64th NC Regiment, CSA with William Issam Hensley.  He organized a local regiment for the CSA as Captain with the intention to switch sides once he came in contact with Unionists.
