Mallie Ward Fender

Mr. Mallie Ward Fender, 79, of 100 Stalling Lane, Erwin, formerly of 915 Hoback Avenue, Erwin died Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at Erwin Health Care Center.

Mr. Fender was a native of Yancey County, North Carolina, and a son of the late John and Mary Bryant Fender. During his working career, he had been employed by Southern Potteries, formerly of Erwin, Enco Materials, Callahan Construction, and by Triangle Supply. He retried in 1981. Mr. Fender was a member of Pathway Freewill Baptist Church, and a member of the Clinchfield Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Fender on Dece,ber 15, 1992. And is also preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, five brothers, one grandson, and one great-grandchild. Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Hensley, Erwin, and Barbara Fuller, Johnson City; three sons, Monroe Fender, Johnson City, Arthur Fender, Oregon, and Ray Fender, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Fender is interred in Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Emmert O. Foster

Funeral services for Emmert O. Foster. age 77. Route 2, Erwin, who died Saturday, April 18, 1998, in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital, were held at 8 p.m. Monday, April 20, from the Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverends Brad Higgins, Terry Richardson, and J.C. Sheets officiated. Music was provided by the Foster Brothers. Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Unaka Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Foster was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Lee Ander and Nancy Tipton Foster. He was an employee of the Clinchfield Railroad before retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Foster was an Army Veteran. He was amember of the Unaka Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Lou Foster in 1963. Survivors inclide: his wife, Blanche Edwards Foster,; two sons, gary Foster, Erwin and Larry Copp, Washington County; three daughters, June Cutshall and Jeanette Wooton, both of Erwin, and Diana Copp Hensley, Greeneville; one brother, Junioc Foster, Erwin; one sister, Louise Masters, Erwin; and one grandchild, Sasha Wooton. John A. Gouge

Funeral services for John A. Gouge, age 88, Route 1, Box 375, Unicoi, who died Saturday, May 23, 1998 at Erwin Health Care, will be conducted at 8 p.m., Wednesday May 27 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Reverend Paul Knapp will officiate. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Gouge Family Cemetery, Limeston Cove Community, Unicoi.

Mr. Gouge was a son of the late James T. and Harriet Grindstaff Gouge. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Limestone Cove Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by hi wife, Donna Oleta Gouge on December 16, 1994; and by three brothers; two sisters and one grandson. Survivors include: two daughters, Jean Keplinger, Unicoi and June Messer of Hmapton; four sons, Jack M. Gouge, Heidelberg, Germany, James K. Gouge, Montgomery, Alabama, Bobby Joe Gouge and John W. Gouge, both of Unicoi; five sisters, Alice Banks, Mae Gouge, Polly Bailey, Leatha Ellis, all of Johnson City, and Ruth Hamrick of Birmingham, Alabama; two brothers, Earl Gouge and Dalton Gouge, both of Johnson City; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Leonard Gouge

Mr. Leonard Gouge, 61 of Route 1, Unicoi, died Thursday, February 5, 1998 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.

Mr. Gouge was a native of North Carolina and a son of the late Willard Senior and Anna Mae Burgner Gouge. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Couge owned and operated Leonard Gouge Construction Company until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Embreeville Cove Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Trent in 1980. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Helen Miller Gouge; three daughters, Debra Gouge Lashin, Unicoi, Kim Gouge Bowman, Bowmantown, and Christa Gouge Carey, Erwin; four sisters, Shirley Orr, Greenfield, Indiana, and Judy Ray, Helen McInturff, and Linda Hopson, all of Unicoi; one brother, Willard Junior Gouge, Unicoi; three grandchildren, Megan Nichole Bowman and Christopher Joseph Bowman, both of Bowmantown, and Jessie Leonard Carey, Erwin. Mr. Gouge is interred at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Wilsie Capps Guinn

Mrs. Wilsie Capps Guinn, 89 of Route 2, Mill Creek Road, Erwin, died February 4, 1998 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Guinn was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Manuel R., Senior and Anna Mae Laws Capps. She had been employed in retail sales in Erwin for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Guinn, 1940; one son, Edwin Guinn, 1934; one brother, Dana Capps; three sisters, Elsie Hampton, Ruth Capps, and Elizabeth Davis. Survivors include: one daughter, Maxine Masters, Erwin; one brother, Manuel R. Sapps, Junior, Erinw; one sister, Jacqueline Clahoun, Chattanooga; five granddaughters, Lynne May, Joy Tipton, Leslie Ramsey, Christen Wilson, all of Erwin, and Donna Hudgens, Abingdon, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, and sevral nieces and nephews. Mrs. Guinn is interred at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Alvin Harris

Alvin Harris, 615 Higgins Branch Road, Mars Hill, North Carolina died Sunday, February 1, 1998 at his residence.

Mr. Harris was a Unicoi County native and a son of the late Nelson and Matilda Mashburn Harris. He retired in 1970 as grounds supervisor for Mars Hills College. Mr Harris was an United States Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of Arrington Branch Baptist Church, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Umber 5483.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ray Harris. Survivors include: his wife, Nora Harris; one daughter and son-in-law, Jusy and Randy Rice, Mars Hill; one sister, Arlie Tipton, Greeneville; two grandchildren, Tommy Fox, Mars Hill, and Tammy Shook, Weaverville, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Harris is interred at Higgins Chapel Church Cemetery.

Mr. Charles H. Harris

Mr. Charles H. Harris, 68, 148 Madison Street, Erwin, died Tuesday, December 9, 1997, in the Johnson City Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Harris was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Dave and Isabelle Hughes Harris. He was an Army Veteran. Mr. Harris retured in 1973 from Hoover Precision Products. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Anna McIntosh Harris; two daughters, Teresa Patton, Milligan College and Helen Story, Johnson City; one brother, Theodore Harris, Erwin; one sister, Edith Toney, Erwin; one grandson, Andrew Patton; two granddaughters, Melissa Story and Heather Story; and several neices and nephews.

Mrs. Edith Treadway Harris

Mrs. Edith Treadway Harris, 78 of Route 1, Flag Pond, died Tuesday, December 30, 1997 in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County, and a daughter of the late James and Emma Cody Treadway. She was employed for several years as a painter with Southern Pottery. Mrs. Harris was a member of Higgins Chapel Baptist Church and the Clinchfield Senior Adult Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Harris; a son, Benjamin Treadway; three brothers, Tom Treadway, Roy Treadway, and Arthur Treadway; and one sister, Bessie McIntosh. Survivors include, one sister, Mamie L. Phillips of Unicoi; a niece, Shirley Fender, Unicoi; several other nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harris is interred in the Harris Family Cemetery.

Ms. Maude Harris

Maude Harris, 84, 409 Odom Branch Road, Erwin died Monday, January 26, 1998 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Harris was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Jossie Hampton Harris. She retired from Industrail garment after 11 years of service and had previously been employed by Southern Potteries for 14 years. Miss Harris was a member of Lily Dale Church of Christ.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Harris, Ulise Harris, Carl Harris, and Cecil Harris; and thre esisters, Linda Harris, Kathleen Keever and Allie Allen. Survivors include: two brothers, Ralph Harris and Frank Harris, both of Erwin; one sister, Judy McIntosh, Dudley, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Harris is interred at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs.Ruth Saylor Hawkins

Mrs. Ruth Saylor Hawkins, 78 of Route 1, Unicoi died Wednesday May 6, 1998 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Hawkins was a native of Unicoi County, having lived in Orlando, Florida for 24 years before returning to Erwin in 1980. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Saylor. Mrs. Hawkins was employed by Lockheed Martin Corporation before retiring in 1978 after 22 years of service. She was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. "Shug" Hawkins, in 1990. Survivors include: one son, Craig Hawkins, Unicoi; three grandchildren, Shannon Hawkins, Dianne Timms and Vana Hawkins, all of Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hawkins is interred at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home.

Mr. Merritt Hensley

Mr. Merritt Hensley, 90, of 214 White Cove Road, Unicoi, died Saturday January 24, 1998 at Erwin Health Care Center.

Mr. Hensley was a native and lifelong resident of Unicoi County. He was a son of the late James M. and Dorothy Shelton Hensley. In his early life he worked at the CCC Camps. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Hensley was a member of Sweetwater Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers and by four sisters. Survivors include one sister, Letha Shelton, Flag Pond; and several neices and nephews including James Hensley, Unicoi, Winifred Shelton, Flag Pond, Dorothy Tipton, Erwin, and Teresa Shelton, Flag Pond. Mr. Thomas Fred Hensley

Mr. Thomas Fred Hensley, 88, 248 Bear Grass Road, Longs, South Carolina died Saturday, January 31, 1998

Mr. Hensley was a Unicoi County native but had lived in Tallahassee, Florida for a number of years and Texas for two years before making his home in South Carolina for 1 1/2 years. He was a son of the late Dr. Thomas Carter and Mary Ann Briggs Hensley.

Mr. Hensley was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was employed with the Clinchfield Railroad as an office clerk until retirement. Mr. Hensley was a member of the Mount Leon Baptist Church in Longs.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Holt Hensley, Senior and C.R. Hensley ; five sisters, Anna Hensley Lilly, Effie Briggs, Maude Saults, Mary Lee Hensley and Elsie Hensley. Survivors include: his wife, Willie Frances Arnold Hensley, Longs, one step-son, Bill Wilburn, Kempner, Texas; one sister, Kate Congdon, Erwin; and six nephews and seven nieces. Mr. Floyd Hollifield

Mr. Floyd Hollifield, 60, of 126 Coffie Lane, Lamar Community, Jonesborough died Wednesday, April 1, 1998 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Hollifield was a Unicoi County native but had lived in Lamar Community for 22 years. He was the son of the late Max and Mattie Rogers Hollifield. Mr. Hollifield was a United States Air Force Veteran. He had been employed with Mor-Flo Industries for 15 years before retirement in 1988.

In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by: one daughter, kathy Hambrick in 1984; one granddaughter, Temmy Relee Casey, in 1984; and one brother. Survivors include: his wife, Ethel Smith Hollifield; two sons, James Casey and Steve Casey, both of Jonesborough; three daughters, Cora Ann Suthphin and Sandra Sue Sutphin, both of Jonesborough and Mary Lou Olguin, Maryville; two brothers, Ray Hollifield, New Jersey, and Glen Hollifield, Erwin; one sister, Betty Lou Metcalf, Erwin; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Essie Randolph Wheeler Hopson

Mrs. Essie Wheeler Hopson, 78, 1806 Lamons Lane, Johnson City died Friday, June 5, 1998 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Hopson was a Yancey County, North Carolina native, but had lived most of her life in Erwin and Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Sylvanus and Ida Jane Watts Randolph. Mrs. Hopson was preceded in death by her husband, Royce Wheeler; three brothers, and one grandson. She had retired from Industrial Garment Co., Erwin. Mrs. Hopson was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: four daughters, Betty Falk, Erwin, Lovada O'Leary, Richland, Washington, Christine Hutchins, Unicoi, and Donna Miller, Gray; one son, Ronald Wheeler, Johnson City; one brother, J.D. Randolph, Bluff City; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hopson is interred in Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Hazel Lillan Hensley Howell

Mrs. Hazel Lillian Howell, 79, Route 1, Green Mountain, North Carolina died Sunday May 10, 1998.

Mrs. Howell was a Unicoi County native and had lived in Green Mountain most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Edwards Hensley. Mrs. Howell was a former employee of the Burnsville, North Carolina School System.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Howell and one brother Forest Hensley. Survivors include: two brothers, James Lewis and Dock Lewis, both of Erwin; one sister, Veril Chandler, Buna Vista, Virginia; several step-grandchildren; several ste-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Howell is interred in the Hensley Family Cemetery, Mountain Dale Community.

Robert C. Howell

A memorial service for Robert C. Howell, who died on Saturday, February 14, 1998 in Leesburg, FL, will be held on Sunday April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Green Mountain Presbyterian Church, Green Mountain, NC. The service will be conducted by James Byrd, a former student of Mr. Howell's and the Reverend Gregory Howell, a nephew.

Mr. Howell was the son of the late Arcemus and Bonnie Renfro Howell of Green Mountain. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Philip J. Howell. Mr. Howell was a member of Green Mountain Presbyterian Church. He was a retired educator, having worked in the Rockingham, Yancey and McDowell school systems. In addition to teaching, he directed many drama productions, sponsored the yearbook, and many other activities and clubs in the schools. Mr. Howell was a lifelong memebr of the professional organizations, N.C.A.E. and N.E.A.

Survivors include: two sisters, Elizabeth Sams, Mars Hill, NC, and Peggy Brinkley, Bakersville, NC; and two brothers, Ward Howell, Erwin and Royce Howell of Canton, NC.

Mrs. Rena Garland Johnson

Mrs. Rena Garland Johnson, 86 of Erwin Health Care Center, 100 Stalling Lane, formerly of 210 Wilson Road, Erwin, died Thursday, February 5, 1998 at the center.

Mrs. Johnson was a Mitchell County, North Carolina native, but had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She was a daughter of the late Garrett and Dicey Peterson Garland. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Hassia Bryant, Rissia Miller, Nora Bryant, and Bertha Peterson. Survivors include: one son, Frank Johnson, Texas; two daughters, Deltha Sharp and Ellen Harris, both of Erwin; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson is interred at Evergreen Cemetery.

Ward Jones

Funeral services for Ward Jones, age 93, 202 Alabama Atreet, Erwin, formerly of 441 Ohio Avenue, Erwin, who died Thursday May 21, 1998 in the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, were held at 8 p.m. Friday from the Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Richard Gregory officiated. Masonic services were rendered by the Flag Pond Mason Lodge #4087 F & AM. Music was provided by Kim Ruble and Inez Chandler. Graveside service ans entombment were held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Mr. Jones was a native of Relief, NC, and had lived in Burnsville, NC before moving to Erwin in 1943. He was a son of the late John W. and Vashti Tipton Jones. Mr. Jones was a self-employed barber, having owned and operated several barber establishments in his career. He was a member of the Flag Pond Masonic Lodge # 4087 F & AM. He was also a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple of Erwin, and a member of Eastern Star, Flag Pond, #173.

Other than his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include: his wife, Elsie Cochran Jones; two daughters, Lucille Brown, Jacksonville, FL and Virginia Pardue, Erinw; one borther, Boyd Jones, Johnson City; two sisters, Marie Gage, Erwin and Trula Harrell, Weaverville, NC; four grandchildren, Carol Pardue Faulkner, Phillip Wayne Pardue, Cindy Brown Farris, and Sharon Brown Linn; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. edford Funeral Home was in charge of arragements.

Mrs. Pauline Foster King

Mrs. Pauline Foster King, 74, Deadrick Street, Erwin, died Friday, December 12, 1997 at the Asbury Center, Johnson City, Tenessee, following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. King was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Andy and Zettie Chandler Foster. She was a seamstress with Industrial Garment, having retired in 1987 after 32 years of service. Mrs. King was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence E. King; three sons, James W. King, Jonesborough, Tennessee, Alvin W. King and Gary W. King, both of Erwin; four brothers, Raymond Foster, William A. Foster, William H. "Billy" Foster, and Robert E. Foster, all of Erwin; six sisters, Mae Hughes, Gladys Bailey, Edna Lloyd, Dorothy Baucom, all of Erwin; Francis Ingle, Maumee, Ohio, and Lorraine Simmons, Lakeview, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Jeff King, Melissa Griffith, LeeAnn King, Leslee King, Julie Rainbolt, L.J. Mae Poore Kirby

Mae Kirby Poore, 96, of 1026 Florida Avenue, Erwin died Sunday June 7, 1998 in Magnolia Manor of Inman.

A native of Erwin, she was the widow of Henry Mack Kirby and the daughter of the late Frank and Melvina Huskins Poore. Mrs. Kirby worked at The Standard for a number of years before her retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: five nieces, Arizona Hughes Bright, Caroyln Hughes Brewer and Bernice Hughes Gregory, all of Spartanburg, SC, Delores Hughes Adkins and Wanda Hughes Settles of Chesnee; a nephew, Raplh Hughes of Marietta, Georgia. Mrs. Kirby was interred at Sunset Memorial Park.

Ms. Hazel T. Larimer

Ms. Hazel T. Larimer, 73, died Wednesday, January 7, 1998 at the Erwin Health Care Center, 100 Stalling Lane, Erwin following a lengthy illness.

Ms. Larimer was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Charles L. and Myrtle Taylor Larimer.

Ms. Larimer was employed with Southern Pottery for 15 years as a designer painter. She was also employed as a cashier with the United Telephone Company, having retired after 26 years of service. Ms. Larimer was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence T. Larimer in 1994; and one great-nephew, Matthew Aaron Larimer in 1997. Survivors include: one sister, Mrs. Ruth Duncan , Erwin; one brother-in-law, Gene Duncan, Erwin; one sister-in-law, Chestine Larimer, Erwin; one nephew, Craig P. Larimer; one niece, Mary Elizabeth Duncan Jones; one great-nephew, Patrick N. Larimer; and several cousins. Ms. Larimer is interred at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Martha Roberts Laughren

Mrs. Martha Laughren, 70, died Friday, November 14, 1997 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Laughren was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a daughter of the late John and Dora Buchanan Roberts. She was a housewife. She was a member of Buffalo Valley Free Will Baptist Church, Unicoi.

Mrs. Laughren was preceded in death by her husband, James Burney Laughren, in 1963, one son, two sisters and two grandsons. Survivors include one son, Gary D. Laughren, Jonesborough, Tennessee; three daughters, Brenda Price, Gray, Tennessee, Phyllis Reed, Jonesborough, Tennessee, and Frances Hawkins, Johnson City, Tennessee; two brothers, George Roberts and Ralph Roberts, both of Unicoi, Tennessee; six sisters, Inez Yarber, Loris Reeser, Frances Horton, and Joyce Osburn, all of Unicoi; Olean Boberts, Erwin, Tennessee and Myrtle Laughren, Greenmountain, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Maynard Light

Funeral services for Charles Maynar Light, ade 70, 1021 Prince Avenue, Erwin, who died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Johnson City Medical Center were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursady in the Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Christopher Ward officiated. Graveside services and interment were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Fishery Cemetery.

Mr. Kight was a native of Unicoi County and a son of Ella Ambrose Light, Erwin, and the late Clarence Light. He retired from Clinchfield Railroad as a brakeman. Mr. Light was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by: his wife, marie Sutherland Light in 1984; one son, Charles Light; one sister, Dorothy Jean Light; three brothers, James L. Light, Willard Light, and Jerry Light. Survivors in addition to his mother, include: two daughters, Sherry McNabb, Erwin and Tina Stapleton, Alabama; one sister, Betty Coultier, Erwin; three brothers, Vernon Light, Johnson City, Mike Light and Merle Light, both of Erwin; four grandchildren, Michelle McNabb, Rachel McNabb, Amy Light, and Andrea Stapleton. Mr. Marion Jessie Linville

Mr. Marion Jessie Linville, 77, died Thursday, December 4, 1997 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Linville was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a son of the late Nate D. and Bessie Tapp Linville. He served as a Seaman II Class with the United States Navy during World War II, while stationed in San Leandro, California. He retired from Kloppers, Baltimore, Maryland as a machinist following 40 years of service. Mr. Linville was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Erwin where he served in various offices of the church, including serving on the Board of Trustees for several years.

Mr. Linville was preceded in death by one son, Marion Dennis Linville, on May 14, 1989. Survivors include his wife, Daphne Bellamy Linville; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert "Bob" Meil, Westminster, Maryland; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Patricia Linville, Westminster, Maryland; six sisters, Mrs. Lucille Piercy, Burnsville, North Carolina; Mrs. Margaret Ann Yeager, Knoxville; and Mrs. Marie Ramsey, Mrs. Betty Black, Mrs. Eula Mae Tipton, and Mrs. Kaye McInturff, all of Unicoi; three brothers, Robert C. Linville, H.C. Linville, and James Linville, all of Unicoi; seven grandchildren, Denise Stansburg, David Linville, Barbara Hunter, Susan Oak, Deborah Owens, Julie Ann Linville, and Rebecca Linville; six great-grandchildren, Robert Bromwell, Brad Bromwell, Richard Hunter, David Owens, Megan Owens and Kelly Linville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie Lockner

Funeral services for Lillie Lockner, age 96, of Box 271, Little Germany Road, Erwin, who died Friday, April 17, 1998, at Johnson City Medical Center, were conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 1998 at Embreeville Methodist Church. The Reverends Keith Moore and Sam Neeley officiated. Interment followed in Bumpass Cove Cemetery.

She was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Jim and Mary Peterson Lockner. She was a former employee of Chucky Trading Company, retiring following 50 years of servoce. She was a member of Embreeville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: several nieces and nephews; great-neices and nephews; great-great-neices and nephews; great-great-great-neices and nephews; and great-great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Valley Funeral HOme was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anne Marie Ingram Lowe

Mrs. Anne Marie Ingram Lowe, died January 9, 1998 in Bakersville, California after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Lowe was an Erwin native and daughter of Ocie and Jessie Ingram.

She was preced in death by her husband, John Jay Lowe, Junior, an Erwin resident. Survivors include her son, John Jay Lowe, III, daughter-in-law, Becky Lynn Lowe, and grandsons, John Jason Lowe and Christopher Michael Lowe, all of Leona Valley, California.

Charles W. "Chuck" Lozier

A memorial service for Charles W. "Chuck" Lozier, Charleston, South Carolina, who died April 18, 1998 at Medical University in Charlseton, was held April 21 in the Lighthouse Community Center of North Charleston. Burial was in the National Cemetery in Florence, SC, with full military honors.

Mr. Lozier was an Erwin native and the son of the late Wilbur Roswell Lozier and FLorence "Flossie" Norton Lozier. He was a 22 year United States Navy Veteran. Mr. Lozier was a graduate of Trident Technical College, Charleston. He was a golf course supervisor at Kiawah Island Resort, Charleston.

Survivors include: his wife, Penny L. Lozier; three sons, Chalres W. Lozier, Junior, Charleston, Scott Lozier, Goose Creek, SC, and David Lozier, Moncks Corner, SC; one sister, Sharon "Sherry" Bishop, Birmingham, AL; two aunts, Amilee Adams and Bertha Bailet, Erwin; several grandchildren; and several cousins.
