I Simon Mathews of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee, being somewhat feeble in body, but sound in judgment and calling to mind the uncertainity of life, but certainty of death, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in form and manner following:

Item 1st If my beloved wife, Mary Mathews should be the longest liver, my will is that she and my son Jno. Mathews shall own and occupy all my land on the south east side of the Gallatin road together with the houses and appurtenances these unto belonging, so long as my wife, Mary Mathews shall live. That my son Jno. Mathews shall have the superintendance of the farm and use his best endeavors to keep it in good repair. Also keep his mother, Mary Mathews comfortable on sd tract of land, so far as lies in his power. At my wife Mary Mathews death, then the above named tract of land to be disposed of as herein after mentioned.

Item 2nd Supposing the land and houses on the south east side of the road will rent for one hundred dollars and wishing to provide amply for my wife, Mary Mathews, It is my will that she shall have one half of the profits aring from the cultivation of sd farm for her individual support and my son, Jno Mathews the other. I further more give my wife Mary Mathews the interest arising from all the monies and cash notes that may be on hands at my death. I do this in case the proceeds of the farm shall not be sufficient to support her. But if after an examination of this income by my lawful representatives of the land before mention, shall be found sufficient for her support, then and in that case, the monies and cash are to be placed into the hands of my lawful executors to be divided amongst my children equally including Mariah Hays, my granddaughter.

Item 3rd It is my will that my household and kitchen furniture remain with my wife so long as she may live. At her death to be sold on a credit of twelve months and the proceeds divided among my children and granddaughter, Mariah Hays.

Item 4th My will is that all my farming utensils and stock of every description remain on the place so long as my wife may live At her death to be disposed of as in Item 3rd, I wish my wife to have the use of two good milk cows and a horse to ride whenever she pleases.

Item 5th It is my wish that all my land on the northwest side of the Gallatin Road be rented out during my wife Mary Mathews lifetime and the clear profits arising from the same to be added to my personal estate.

Item 6th At my wife's death my will is that all the property of every description that may be in her possession be sold and disposed of as in Item 3rd. Also all the real estate be sold for a credit of one and two years, a deed to be made to the same by my lawful representatives when the last payment is made. The Shop (?) Lot on which Thos. Carr now lives containing four acres more or less, to be sold separate.

Item 7th After my real and personal property is sold and all the monies collected from the same. My will is that my son Jno. Mathews shall have three hundred dollars. My son William Mathews two hundred dollars. And my son Thos. C. Mathews one hundred dollars. Each of my sons the above amounts over and above an equal share in all the monies that may arise from the sale of my real and personal property. After the above amounts is taken out of the whole amount then they my sons are to be equal shares with the balance of my children and granddaughter, Mariah Hayes: in what may be left on hands.

Item 8th It is my wish that my son Jno. Mathews have the use of my waggon and gear during my wife's life time and two work horses. At her death the property included in this item be sold and disposed of as in Item 3rd.

Item 9th I do appoint Joseph Robb Jr. and Danl W. Mentlo my lawful executors to carry out this purport of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date above written in Test.
