In the name of God amen. I RICHARD STROTHER of SUMNER and State of TENNESSEE in perfect mind and memory thanks be to God do make this my last will and testament touching such worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give, demise, and dispose of the same in the following manner.
First I lend unto by beloved wife SUSANNA STROTHER my land & plantation whereas I now live and my stock of all kinds one negro man by the name of MOSES, and all my household furniture, plantation utensils unto her during her natural life.
I give & bequeath unto my son JAMES STROTHER all my land lying west of the overflowing
branch it being the land that my son JAMES now lives on to him and his heirs forever. I give and
bequeath unto my son ROBERT STROTHER after the death of my wife SUSANNA
STROTHER the land and plantation that I now live on lying on the east side of the overflowing
branch to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my daughter SUSANNA PITT the
tract of land that I bought of DAVID BRIGANCE and CHARLES BRIGANCE it being the same
tract of land that my daughter SUSANNA PITT now lives on containing eighty five and one third
acres to her and her heirs forever. I give & bequeath unto my five children NANCY HOLLIS,
JAMES STROTHER, ROBERT STROTHER, BETSEY MCCONNELL & SUSANNA PITT all
the personal property that I have lent to my wife SUSANNA STROTHER after her death to be
equally divided between my five before mentioned children to them & their heirs forever. And
lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son JAMES STROTHER & JOHN MCCONNELL
my whole & sale executors of this my last will & testament and I here by utterly dissolve, revoke,
& disannull all other former wills before by me made, and this only take to be my last will &
testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal this 23rd day of September 1809.

State of TENNESSEE SUMNER COUNTY
At a Court of pleas & quarter sessions held for the county aforesaid on the second Monday in
April in the year 1813 & 37th year of American Independence, the last will and Testament of
RICHARD STROTHER dec'd was exhibited to the court of said county & proved in due course
of law whereunto in the same manner JAMES STROTHER and JOHN MCCONNELL have been
qualified as Executors --- These are therefore to empower the said Executors to _____ into &
upon all & singular the good, & _____ rights & _____ of the said dec'd, and _____ into them
possession take whomsoever the same may be found in this State & an inventory thereof to return
to this Court within the time limited by law, and all the just debts of the said dec'd to pay so far as
the said estate will _____ I or amount to _____. DAVID SHELBY, Clerk of our said court at
