In the name of God Amen: I Hugh Elliott of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee being in a low state of health, but of a perfect and sound memory, and calling to mind this frailty of all flesh I think proper to make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following in the first place I desire all my just debts and funeral charges to be paid and as to what it hath pleased God to bless me with I will and dispose of as follows.

I will and bequeath to Margit Cowens (?) three sons namely Hugh Cowen, James Cowen, and George Cowen all my lands both inlands and out lands that I now claim either by deed or bond to be equally divided at the time that George the youngest comes to the age of twenty one years, and as to the rest of my property my will and desire is that an equal distribution between the three before mentioned boys & their mother Marget Cowen and her daughter Marget Cowen be made an equal Legatee to take her part when eighteen years of age, and I will and bequeath to Marget Cowens sons a negro girl named Marian (?) to her proper use - and I further desire that the said Margit Cowen have possession of my dwelling house and as much of my plantation as my executors may think suficient for her support, also as many of my working tools as will be sufficient to attend said plantation and horses and other stock at the direction of my said executors to hold their privileges during good behavior, that is to say as long as she behaves like a prudent woman.

And lastly I constitute and appoint my two trusty friends John ? and James Trousdale my executors to this my last will and Testament, revoking all will or wills made by me heretofore declaring this only to be my last will and Testament wereunto I have herunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this seventeenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and one.
