Carr, John. Early Times in Middle Tennessee. Originally published in 1857. Reprinted in 1984 by Mini-Histories, 5311 Indiana Ave., Nashville, TN. Carr was one of the earliest pioneers in Middle TN. His book is one of the few TN history books based on first-hand knowledge and experience of the writer. He helped build some of the pioneer forts in Sumner County.
