Allison, Wm. P. - Co. G, 3rd Tennessee Cavalry. Cut off from regiment while on detached service down the Cumberland River just before the battle of Nashville. Never able to get back to the regiment which had retreated with Hood's army to Alabama. Had been in battles at Harrisburg, Miss., and at Franklin, Tenn. One small flesh wound in face. Paroled at Memphis, May 20, 1865.
Anderson, James A. - Co. F, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 24, 1861. Then trans. to 8th Cavalry in place of Henry Osburn. Served under Forrest, Wheeler and Dibrell. Served on President Davis escort in his effort to escape. Paroled at Washington, Ga., May 10, 1865.
Anderson, Samuel R. - Major General of Tennessee State troops, May 5, 1861. Brigadier General in Confederate service Aug. 9, 1861. Commanding a Brigade composed of the 1st, 7th, and 14th regiments serving in the Cheat Mountain Campaign in Virginia. Was retired because of ill health. Re-commissioned Brigadier General, Nov. 4, 1864. Served with Generals Lee, Jackson, Magruder and Archer. Paroled at end of war. From Sumner County.

Beck, Jesse Z. - 1st Lt., Co. K, 4th (Eighth) Tennessee Cavalry. In battles at Parker's Cross Roads, Thompson's Station and Franklin. Wounded at Franklin in left shoulder by brick knocked from a wall by a cannon ball. Captured at Meredith's Mill on Calf Killer River. Was thrown from horse and right ankle broken Aug. 9, 1863. Sent to Johnson's Island, O., then to Ft. Delaware, Md. Paroled May 12, 1865. From Sumner County.
Bell, Tyree H. - Capt. of the 12th Tennessee Infantry. In battles of Belmont, Mo., and Shiloh, Tenn. In July 1862, made Colonel of regiment and led it in the Kentucky Campaign. Then made Brigadier General. Served with General Forrest in Cavalry. Lived on Station Camp Creek in Sumner County until Nov. 1875, then moved to Dyer County in West Tennessee.
Bennett, John W. - Co. K, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 18, 1861. In battles in Virginia at Seven Pines. Seven days battles before Richmond and Cedar Run. Discharged as a non-conscript, under age, Aug. 18, 1862. Enlisted in the 4th Tennessee Cavalry (McLemore's) in battle of Chickamauga, Ga. In Streight Raid into Alabama and around Nashville. Then served in Co. D, 9th Tennessee Cavalry. Paroled at Orange Court House, Va.
Bennett, William Jacob - Co. A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry. Was Capt. Captured at Salineville, O., July 26, 1863. Sent to Camp Chase, O., then to penitentiary at Springfield, O. Escaped from the Ohio penitentiary with Gen. Morgan. Served in Eastern Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky to end of war.

Blackwell, John Y. - Co. A, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Wounded at Peachtree Creek near Atlanta, Ga., July 20, 1864, by minie ball just above left ankle shattering both bones. In hospital to close of war. Paroled from hospital at Cuthburt, Ga. On crutches fifteen years after the war. From Trousdale County, then Sumner.

Bowling, Allen A. - Co. I, 14th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 25, 1861. In battles at Cheat Mountain and at Seven Pines, Va. Discharged on disability from Pneumonia at Richmond, Va., July 23, 1862. From Sumner County.
Bradley, W. T. - Co. B, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. From Sumner County. Wounded in right arm and captured at Gettysburg, Pa., in Pickett's Charge. Sent to a prison hospital ship in New York Harbor. Exchanged. Wounded severely in head by minie ball at Petersburg, Va. Right eye shot out. Captured and paroled from hospital at Petersburg when Lee surrendered at Appamattox.
Brandon, Charles L. - Co. K, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. From Gallatin. Captured in Pickett's Charge Up Cemetery Hill at Gettysburg, Pa., July 3, 1863. Sent to Ft. Delaware, Md. Paroled April 18, 1865. Ordered released by President Lincoln.
Brasswell, A. Dallas - Co. C, 7th Kentucky Cavalry. Churchwell's Regiment. Enlisted in 1862. Thrown from horse, shoulder dislocated, collar bone broken. Captured at Livingston, Tenn., trying to get home after Gen. Morgan was killed at Greenville, Tenn. Sent to Camp Chase, O. Paroled June 10, 1865. Dates commands badly mixed. Several points in doubt. He states that he was in Churchwell's Regiment. The only Col. Churchwell was Colonel of the 34th Tennessee Infantry until re-organization. He then disappeared from the records. Could have enlisted in a Kentucky Cavalry command. Such command not found. From Sumner County.
Brooks, Chas G. - Co. B, 2nd or 6th Wheeler's Cavalry Enlisted just a boy in 1863. Captured by Gen. Payne's forces and kept in jail at Gallatin 5 weeks. Judge Berry of Gallatin interceded and got him out of jail on promising to go home and stay out of the army. Enlisted in Co. F, 4th Cavalry and was captured, in spring of 1864. Took the oath to keep from falling into the hands of Gen. Payne again. On detached service on Hood's Invasion of Tennessee. Fifty men under Capt. Rickman were to go in advance of the army, to north of Cumberland River. Crossed river 18 miles below Nashville. Went to old Camp Trousdale, Richland, now Portland. Disbanded. Went to Smith County. Was there during battle of Nashville. Rejoined army at Corinth, Miss. Given 15-day furlough. Captured while on furlough, near Ft. Donelson. Oath at Nashville in 1865.

Brown, James David - Co. G 4th McLemore's Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in Oct. 1861. Taken sick on retreat from Murfreesboro to Chattanooga, 1862. Left at a private home near Chattanooga with W. M. Greer with him as nurse. Had Typhoid Pneumonia. Sick three weeks. Returned to command. Had chronic diarrhea for years after war. From Parham, Sumner County. White House Road.

Wounded at Murfreesboro, leg broken by minie ball. Disabled for six months. Wounded al Woodbury, Tenn., by saber cut on head. Captured twice but escaped each time. From Portland.

Lyon's raid in 1864. At Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Hartford, Litchfield and Elizabethtown, Ky. Cut off from command. Got back to Sumner County Dec. 24, 1864. Then with Ellis Harper. Paroled 6 miles north of Gallatin, May 9, 1865.
Higgason, Thos. H. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Aug. 20, 1861. Wounded at Chickamauga, Ga., Sept. 19, 1863, in both thighs by minie ball. In hospital at Griffin, Ga., 2 months. Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864. Sent to Camp Chase, O. Paroled May 10, 1865.
Hinsley, W. M. - Co. A, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Had measles at Camp Trousdale in 1861. Blinded in left eye by piece of gun cap. Discharged on disability in 1863. From Portland, Sumner County.
Honeycutt, James A. - 8th Kentucky Mounted Infantry. Forest's Division. Cut off from command in Hart County, Ky., in late 1864, while on a foraging detail. Never able to get back to regiment. This was on the raid by Gen. H. B. Lyon, just prior to the battle of Nashville. This raid was in retaliation for the wanton destruction of property in the Confederate States by Union forces. The expedition crossed Tennessee, in o Kentucky, destroying property, burning public buildings, etc., among them being Court Houses at Princeton, Ky., and Celina, Tennessee. Crossed Tennessee again, made their way into Alabama, where thinking themselves perfectly safe, and being completely worn out, they were surprised and almost the entire command captured. Hornbuckle, James W. - Enlisted Jan. 9, 1861, in Co. H, 49th Alabama Infantry. In battles at Shiloh, Tenn.; Vicksburg, Miss.; Baton Rouge, La.; Corinth, Miss., and Port Hudson, La., where he was captured July 12, 1864. Paroled and came home. From Portland.
James, H. P. - Co. B, 41st Georgia Infantry. Discharged on disability at Tupelo, Miss., in Aug. 1862. Had gone to Georgia to enlist in this regiment. From Sumner County.
Jones, T. A. - Co. I, 6th Kentucky Infantry. Enlisted in 1861. Comrade stumbled against him on a night march, very stormy and dark. Fell over cliff on Rocky Face Ridge in Ga. Ankle dislocated, muscles and ligaments torn. Disabled for several months. Paroled at Washington, Ga., in May 1865. From Sumner County.
Isbell, Pendleton - Enlisted Sept. 24, 1862, in Co. F, 62nd Tennessee Infantry. (Mounted). Wounded in right heel at Vicksburg, Miss. Captured at Vicksburg, July 4, 1863. Paroled on oath Sept. 8, 1863. From Sumner County.

King, W. B. - Co. C, 6th Arkansas Infantry. From South Tunnel. Enlisted in June 1862. Under Gen. Price. Struck himself on left kneecap with hatchet at Little Rock, Ark., building feed racks for mules. In service to end of war. Was captured and exchanged. Place and date not given.
Lackey, S. E. - Co. B, 6th Kentucky Cavalry. Captured July 20, 1863. Escaped. Sent to Canada as a Secret Operative. Took part in the Raid on St. Albans, Vt., Oct. 18, 1864, led by Bennett H. Young. Was never discharged or paroled. From Gallatin.

Lee, Milton B. - Co. B, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Officially 13th. Enlisted in spring of 1863. In battles at Celina, Kettle Creek and Sparta, Tenn. Oath at Nashville, Jan. 26, 1864. Had $180 in Confederate money. Wife had $75 sewn into home-made Linsey dress. Yankee soldiers cut it out after running him away from home, shooting at him several times as he ran. Soldiers made wife light candles for them to see to reload their guns. From Sumner County.
Lewis, David - Co. G, 16th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 21, 1861. From Fountain Head. In hospital at White Sulphur Springs, Va., with Rheumatism in 1861. Discharged on disability and expiration of enlistment at Tupelo, Miss., in July 1863. Enlisted in Co. C, 1st Infantry Battalion (Colmn's). Captured. Sent to New Orleans, La. Prison guard wounded him with a bayonet just above right knee joint.

Marshall, H. H. - Co. G, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 11, 1861. Captured at Ft. Donelson. Exchanged. Wounded on picket duty on Peachtree St. in Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 6, 1864. Minie ball hit something and made to ricochet striking thigh between hip and knee cutting both leaders and arteries, causing severe loss of blood, for ten days. Paroled at end of war. Had chronic diarrhea while in prison at Camp Butler, IL. Was chief musician in regimental band. From Sumner County. P.O., Goodlettsville, Tenn.
Marshall, Wm. H. - Co. G, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May II, 1861. From Sumner County. Captured at Ft. Donelson. Exchanged. Wounded at Chickamauga, Ga., Sept. 20, 1863. Left arm broken by minie ball. Ball left in, lodged between bones of lower arm. Pieces of bone worked out of arm. In hospital 4 months. Rejoined regiment at Dalton, Ga. Captured on Peachtree Creek, near Atlana, July 20, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglass, Ill. Guard stuck bayonet into left hip in attempt to escape on way to prison. Paroled on oath at Camp Douglass one month before end of war. Had chronic diarrhea.
Mathis, John A. - Co. G, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. Enlisted Aug. 25, 1862. From Sumner County. Wounded at Ragan's Hill, near Providence or Clarksville, Tenn. Shot in face, lost eye and caused deafness. Captured there in March 1865.
McClain, John Bell - Co. I, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Sgt. in Co. F, 45th Tennessee Infantry. Trans. to Co. I, Nov. 18, 1862. Deserted Feb. 5, 1865, with gun and accouterments. Went within enemy lines. Took the oath, to be released at Nashville. Was brigade teamster in Hill's Brigade before trans. from Trousdale County.
McColgan, J. Tallerand - Enlisted May 29, 1861, in Co. E, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Discharged on disability in Virginia, Aug. 6, 1861. Enlisted in the 28th Tennessee Infantry. In battles at Fishing Creek and Shiloh, while in this regiment. Discharged in 1862, at the re-organization of the regiment. Enlisted in the 14th Kentucky Cavalry and was captured at Buffington's Island, O., July 19, 1863. Sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., then to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled. Took the oath several years after the war to establish citizenship when elected Magistrate.

Miles, John - Co. H, 38th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in 1862. Ruptured unloading flour from a steamboat at Hiawasse, Tenn., near Savannah. In hospital two months Captured at Murfreesboro in Dec. 1864, when Gen. Hood sent a detachment to capture Murfreesboro on his invasion of Tennessee. From Gallatin.

Moye, Henry W. - Co. C, Malone's Cavalry Battalion of Gen. Hylon B. Lyon's Kentucky Cavalry. In battles at Hopkinsville and Elizabethtown, Ky. Slightly wounded at Hopkinsville in back of head. Captured. Sent to Louisville and City Point, Va. Exchanged at City Point, Va., in May 1864. All of above is his personal statement in applying for pension. From Rock Bridge, Sumner County. Served with Ellis Harpers Guerillas. No official record found. Paroled at Gallatin May 9, 1865.

Nuller, Wm. Henderson - Co. C, 48th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Nov. 17, 1862. Had "Yellow Ganders" and a cough. Told by Capt. Carlos C. Harris to go home. Never discharged. Never paroled. Just went home. From Westmoreland, Sumner County.
Parks, J. R. - Co. E, 25th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted July 25, 1861. From Sumner County. In battles at Fishing Creek, Ky.; Perryville, Ky., and Murfreesboro, Tenn. Discharged as a non-conscript Dec. 12, 1862, under 18 years of age. Thigh broken at Beech Grove, Tennessee after discharge. Crippled for life. Under the conscript law, service was compulsory for 30 days after discharge if under age.
Pillow, John A. - Co. G, 13th Arkansas Infantry. In battles at Belmont, Mo.; Shiloh, Tenn.; Corinth, Miss.; Perryville, Ky.; Richmond, Ky., and Murfreesboro, where he was wounded in right hip by fall of horse. In hospital at Ringgold, Ga. Went home. Captured. Sent to Cairo, Ill., on way to prison. Took the oath in 1864.

This company was recruited as McCann's Battalion, later becoming companies H and I in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry. Was captured at Buffington's Island, O., July 19, 1863. Sent to Camp Douglas, IL. Seay, Benjamin - Co. A, 57th Virginia Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. In hospital at Richmond, Va., five months from exposure in swamps near Richmond. Lost an eye from the exposure. Paroled April 11, 1865. From Willard in Trousdale County, then Sumner.
Schluter, G. W. - Co. B, 1st Texas Rangers. Paroled at Shreveport, La., June 21, 1865. From Sumner County.
Shannon, Isaac N. - Co. E, 9th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Wounded in stomach and collarbone broken at Shiloh. Wounded in right knee at Perryville, Ky., and a bullet passed through his hat. Wounded in foot at Jonesboro, Ga. Shocked by shell concussion at Franklin. Was detailed as sharpshooter with a Whitworth Rifle. Lived in Sumner County.
Shute, W. W. - Co. A, 20th Tennessee Infantry. 2nd Sgt., 2nd Lt., 1st Lt. In all battles from Fishing Creek, Ky. to Bentonville, N. C. Struck by bullets several times but no severe wound. Paroled at Greensboro, N. C., May 1, 1865. From Sumner County.

Re-enlisted for the duration. Wounded at Shiloh, April 6, 1862, in left hand and in forehead. Minie ball ranged downward destroying left eye, fracturing skull and breaking left jaw. Discharged on disability from wounds Jan. 23, 1863, at Tullahoma, Tenn. Came home. Captured by Union forces. Refused to take the oath and was sent to Rock Island, Ill., then to Camp Chase, O., and Point Lookout, Md. Was from Sumner County, Post Office Number One, Tenn.
