"Mrs. Sarah Edmonia LANE, proprietor of a private boarding-house in Gallatin, is the oldest child born to the union of Zachariah F. and Mary Jane (BROWN) GREEN (for further particulars of parents see sketch of Louis GREEN). Our subject was born in Sumner County, Tenn., in 1832, and in 1848 was united in marriage to William R. LANE, a native of Sumner County, born in 1824, and the son of Bennet and Catherine LANE. To our subject and husband were born five children, who lived to be grown: Zachariah B., who is a farmer in Sumner County; Susan Elizabeth, deceased wife of William ALLEN; Martha W. (deceased); Sallie C., wife of Berry E. LOVE, and Miss W. Anna. William R. LANE was a farmer by occupation, and for many years was constable of his district. He was a soldier in the Mexican war, enlisting in Company I, First Regiment Tennessee Infantry, and after returning home never engaged in any active employment, his health being destroyed while serving his country. He died in 1863. In 1872 Mrs. LANE commenced keeping a private boarding-house on the public square. In 1874 she assumed charge of the Sindle House, and for six years was the mistress, and proved a success as such. In 1880 she moved on the public square, and in 1885 moved where she now resides. Mrs. LANE is a lady of fine taste, and one who is well skilled in looking after the culinary department and the management of a first-class boarding-house. Mr. LANE was a Royal Arch Mason, a Democrat in politics, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mrs. LANE is also a member of the same church."
