The 7th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion

Later known officially as Company G, 22nd Cavalry Regiment

An * after the name denotes continued service alter becoming Company G, in the 22nd or 2nd Cavalry. This company was organized at Camp Jim Davis, Epperson Springs. The majority of the men were from Smith County but so many were from Sumner and what is now Trousdale counties, then Sumner and as it was impossible to determine their county origin, we have included all.

Adolphus B. Cates - Captain. Resigned at reorganization. Raised Company D, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

Jonathan M. Estes* - 1st Lieutenant. Made Captain, January 18, 1864. Mortally wounded at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864.

Bill A. High* - 2nd Lieutenant to whom General Prentiss surrendered himself and 2,500 men at Shiloh, April 6, 1862. Deserted March 27, 1865. Oath.

John R. Bowers - Bvt. 2nd Lieutenant. Died at Corinth, Mississippi in 1862.

Arch W. O. Baker - 1st Sergeant. Deserted February 25, 1862.

John D. Fulcts* - 2nd Sergeant. Deserted November 11, 1863. Double barreled shotgun valued at $20 furnished by S. R. Simpson.

Borum, Meredith* - Captured at Middleton, Tennessee July 20, 1863. Sent to Camp Chase, 0hio, then to Rock Island, Illinois, where he died February 26, 1864. Grave No. 619, south of barracks.

Boulton, Isaac G.* - One year enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Boulton, Ed. B. H. - Enlisted November 15, 1861, for one year. Enlisted in Company B, 7th Tennessee Infantry where he had five relatives. Wounded in left jaw and right leg, by mini balls at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3, 1863. Furloughed home.

Dickens, John Clay* - Enlisted at Hartsville in October 1861. Discharged as a non-conscript underage in 1862. Enlisted again April 1863. In battles at Shiloh, Harrisburg, Courtland, Memphis, Parker's Crossroads, Guntown, Johnsonville, Franklin, and Nashville. Wounded slightly across knuckles of hand at Franklin. Given permission to go home after the battle of Nashville. Captured in January 1865. Refused take oath. In prison until April 1865.

Sent to Fort Delaware, Maryland, Alton, Illinois, and City Point, Virginia. Exchanged February 27, 1865. Paroled at Richmond, Virginia, May 1865. Enlisted in this company and in battles at Corinth, Mississippi; Iuka, Mississippi; Brice's Crossroads, Mississippi; Harrisburg, Mississippi; Fort Pillow, Tennessee; Paducah, Kentucky, and Nashville, Tennessee. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865. Furnished horse valued at $1200.

Mills, John Peter - Enlisted at reorganization of the regiment June 15, 1862. Shown on roll through October 1863.

Minton, W. Carrol* - In battles at Iuka, Reinzi, Monterey, Courtland, then on the staff of General Wheeler on his last raid into Tennessee. Captured and paroled at Carthage, Tennessee and released on oath.

Moore, Buck H.* - 1st Sergeant. 2nd Lieutenant and Captain. In battles at Shiloh, Guntown, Pontotoc. Memphis, Harrisburg, Columbia and Franklin. Wounded in breast at Columbia, Tennessee, and in leg at Franklin, Tennessee. Disabled three months. Given sick furlough. Returned to regiment. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865.

Moore, Dudley* - Enlisted October 19, 1861. Frost bitten in winter of 1864. Detailed by General Buford as Recruiting Officer. Got sick and could not return to command. Was left at the home of William Litchford on Raud Creek, in Smith County, Tennessee. The recruiting detail was composed of N. C. Pope and W. C. West. This was in December 1864.

Nichols, George W.* - Enlisted October 19, 1861. Had Measles, chronic diarrhea, and rheumatism at Corinth, Mississippi. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Nichols, William T.* - Wounded and captured at Okolona, Mississippi, while guarding the M & O Railroad. Sent to U. S. Hospital. Right leg amputated three times. Died April 9, 1865. Buried near Murfreesboro by kinsmen.

Oglesby, D. Frank - Transfered from Company H, 2nd Tennessee Infantry after Shiloh. In all battles after transfer. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865.

Oglesby, James P. - Captured at Okolona, Mississippi, December 23, 1862, while guarding the M & 0 Railroad.

Paschal, Monroe F. M.* - Captured at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864.

West, Claiborne - Swam the Tennessee River at Johnsonville, Tennessee, November 4, 1864, to fasten a line to the U.S. Transport Mazeppa. He then rowed back across the river carrying the line and General Forest's forces pulled the Mazeppa across to the west side, thereby getting many valuable and badly needed supplies such as shoes, blankets, etc. Wounded at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865. Double barreled shotgun valued at $12 furnished by J. B. Jeffries.
