This Indenture made this 11th day of August AD 1860 between Henry Croft and Ella D. Croft his wife citizens of Shelby County, Tennessee of the first part and Alexander Brown of Sumner County, Tennessee of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to us paid of which we acknowledge the receipt we the said Croft and wife have bargained & sold & do now hereby sell & convey to the said Alexander Brown a certain lot or parcel of ground in the Town of Gallatin in the said County of Sumner described as follows: Bounded on the North by Smith Street on the East by Mulberry Street, on the South by the lots belonging to Augustus Barber and Dr. Thompson and on the West by lot belonging to H. B. Vaughn. Said lot containing one acre more or less. To have & to hold to him the said Alexander Brown his heirs and assigns in fee simple forever with all the appurtenances thereto belonging. And we do hereby covenant with the said Brown that we are sized of said property, and have a right to convey it; And that we will forever warrant and defend the title to it against the claims of all persons whomsoever, to him the said Brown his heirs and assigns. Witness our hands & seals, the day & year first above written.

Personally appeared before me Clerk of the County Court of said County the within named bargainors Henry Croft & Ella D. Croft his wife with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they executed the written instrument for the purposes therein contained. And Ella D. Croft wife of the said Henry Croft having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said Ella D. Croft acknowledged the execution of the said deed to have been done by her freely voluntarily and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said husband and for the purposes thereon expressed.
Witness my hand as Clerk of said Court at this office this 11th day of August AD 1860.
