Griffith Rutherford was a General in the Revolutionary War. Rutherford Co, Tn and Rutherford Co, NC
were both named in his honor. Outside the courthouse in Murfreesboro, Tn sits his monument.
Griffith Rutherford had a daughter Margaret who married Elijah Patton Chambers. Elijah was the son of
William Chambers and Elizabeth Patton of Halifax Co, Virginia. Members of the Chambers family later
moved to Smith Co, Tn. Elijah Patton Chambers had a brother John Chambers b. Va d. Bef 1820 in Smith
County. This John is my direct ancestor.
