Henderson Petty and Sons
This tintype photo was given to Alma Petty Matthews (1884-1970) when she was a small
child by her grandfather Henderson Petty (1819-1901). Shown in the photo L to R are
Henderson Petty; son Andrew Petty (1846-1922); and another son that is not positively
identified but think he was William Henderson Petty 1853 - 1922. William was called
"Hensi". He married Louisa Wood in 1874 and in 1898 moved to Texas and never returned
to Tennessee. He died and is buried in Ryan Okla. Andrew Petty is buried in the Moss
Cemetery across the Cumberland River from Carthage.
Henderson Petty is buried in an unmarked grave in the Chestnut Mound area of Smith Co. TN.
