know where he was buried. He was married to Ellen Calhoun, daughter of Hardy Calhoun.
Ellen was b. Apr 16, 1841 d.Mar 28, 1923 in Smith Co. She is buried at Kemp Farm, on
Old Kemp Hollow. William and Ellen were estranged in their later years. My uncle tells me
it was due to his excessive borrowing of money from others. She felt he was "breaking her."

Leslie G. Chambers b. May 13, 1879 d. May 29, 1913. Leslie did not marry.
The painting is a large portarait which currently hangs in my mother's home.
Evidently Leslie was an unique individual. According to a story told by my great aunt Opal
Leslie Chambers the family were in the house one particular day when suddenly the sound
of squealing pigs could be heard outside. When the family went outside to investigate, they
found Leslie in the hog pen beating the hogs with a switch. When Leslie was asked what he
was doing, he said that he was loosening their skins as it was hog killing time.
The gentleman sitting is Leslie G. Chambers. This photograph is remarkably similar to the painting
above. Perhaps the painting was taken from the photo? The man standing is unknown to me.
Mary Ellen Chambers
Mary Ellen Chambers b. Jun 27, 1870 d. Oct 17, 1856. Mary's home was on what is now Kemps Farm
where she is buried. Her home sat on the slope that stands behind the current tool shed. In Mary's will
she left the property to Opal Leslie Chambers, her niece, who later sold the property. According to my
Uncle, Mary was a wonderful woman. From the amount of love I hear in his voice, and the voice of my
mother, when speaking of Mary I can only conclude that this is so.
