North Cemetery
This cemetery is located nine-tenths mile from Hwy. 70N (Lebanon Road), west of the
Rome community, at #87 Hiwassee Road. It is two hundred yards west of the road near
a large barn. There was once an old house nearby that has been demolished.

The single obelisk tombstone is commercially made but it is hand engraved which makes
it very difficult to read. The stone was down and several feet from its base when found
and presently is down. There is a sunken indication of grave near the base of tombstone.
Based on our best effort to read the stone and the opinion of another researcher we think
this was the grave of Martha North who was enumerated in the 1850 census in this area.
