County Historical & Genealogical Society Newsletter it is reported that Peter J. Ballard

cause a disfigured leg but in his later life he was shot in same leg while standing in
his doorway which resulted in the amputation of his leg. He used a prosthesis leg and
was referred to as "Peg Leg Pete." The family retained this leg until a few years ago
when a tornado destroyed the homeplace and the leg was lost.
