William J. ALLRED Confederate Veteran Soldier William J. ALLRED born July 15, 1842 Overton County TN and died May 20, 1915 Overton County, Tennessee and he married Eliza Jane NELSON. She was born June 23, 1842 in Georgia died March 26, 1921 in Overton County, Tennessee, they both are buried in the Shiloh Cemetery located in the Allred Community of Overton County. Have a copy of William's civil war pension application. Eliza's grandfather was Thomas NELSON from South Carolina who served in the Revolutionary War. William J. Henry A. CLARK Co. D 2nd TN Infantry Henry A. CLARK was born February 1, 1825 in Fentress County, Tennessee and died August 12, 1909 in Pickett County, Tennessee. He was married September 18, 1851 to Nancy J. McCLELLAN born February 15, 1834 in Fentress County, Tennessee and died May 10, 1910 in Pickett County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Fleming McCLELLAN and Phoebe (BOLES) McCLELLAN. Henry and Nancy are both buried in the Polk Garrett Cemetery in Pickett County, Tennessee. Stephen Leander COPELAND -- Born, May 4, 1843 Overton
County, Tennessee. Died June 30, 1916 Nashville, Tennessee. He
fought at Cheat Mountain Campaign with Company F 8th TN Infantry.
He deserted on 3/14/1862. He was sent a conscript notice and
he returned to his unit on 10/01/1862. On 10/08/1862, he fought
in the battle of Murfreesboro. His unit lost 306 out of 474 men.
He fought at Franklin, Tennessee on 9/19-20/1863. He fought at
Chickamauga, GA, where he was wounded and sent to Atlanta on
detached duty. He fought at Rocky Face, GA on 5/9/1864. He fought
at the Battle of Nashville on 12/15-16/1864. During the war he
lost a hand and was wounded in the head. Later he developed mental
problems and died in Central State Hospital in Nashville. His
military pay was 11 dollars a month. After his death his wife
Bitha Ann (LYNN) COPELAND applied for a soldier's

James Madison DULWORTH 8th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry James Madison DULWORTH was born about 1841 in Cumberland County, Kentucky and he died about 1911 in probably Clay County, Tennessee although what once was Overton County he married Mary "Polly" CLEARY. William C. "Billy" HUGHES was born December
14, 1841, the date on his headstone is incorrect. He died December
19, 1917 at the age of 86. Billy served in the 25th Inf. Co.
B., Tennessee as a private and was wounded in battle. He was
the only son of Leander and Isabel HUGHES. Billy was the
father of 10 children. He was also a carpenter and taught Sunday
School at the Concord School and Church. He helped to build alot
of the houses in Hillham. He was to my understanding a wonderfully

John H. LEA was born in 1846 and enlisted in Confederacy in August 1864. He served with the 13th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment or Dibrell's Cavalry. He remained with this unit until they surrendered in Washington, Georgia on May 11, 1865. Each man in the unit got $26, 20$ in silver and 6$ in gold coins from the Confederate Treasury. He married Laura KEETON on February 2, 1870, and eventually settled in the Henard Community where he eked out a living by farming. John LEA passed away in 1923, just before his 77th birthday. Isaac Lafayette "Fayette" McCORMICK was born to Tench and Catherine WEST McCORMICK on February 21, 1833. Lafayette served in the 25th Tennessee Infantry Regiment C.S.A. during the Civil War. Lafayette went into the army during 1861 and served in Company H under Captain Richardson COPELAND. Lafayette listed Mill Springs or Fishing Creek as his first battle. He stated that he fought at Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Perryville and others. He remained with the 25th until the unit surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia in April 1865. Elijah MOLES & Mary Polly (HAMMOCK) MOLES Elijah served in the 8th KY Cav. Elijah and Polly both have civil war pensions applications. Copies can be seen in notebook of pension applications. Elvin K. MOREDOCK was born in Jan 1842 in Overton County, the son of John Thomas MOREDOCK and Elizabeth LINDER. Tobias MOREDOCK, one of the early settlers of the area, was his grandfather. Elvin served in the 25th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry which was organized at Camp Zollicoffer near Livingston. Great-granddaughter, Nevagene Almondrode Roberts, writes in the History of Overton County: "Elvin enlisted in the Confederate Army under Colonel Sydney Stanton. Six months later he was in the battle of Mill Springs, KY, where they were defeated. He fought in the battles at Murfreesboro and Chicamauga, TN, also in the battles at Richmond and Petersburg, VA. He also served three or four months under General Robert E. Lee in Virginia. He was shot in his left hand during the war and was left with a permanent injury." Elvin married Sarah E. Kentucky and died 4 Nov 1867 Overton County, Tennessee and he
married Keziah Hannah RAINES. She was born 1810, Wayne
County, Kentucky and died Dec 1889 Overton County, Tennessee.
They are both buried in the Neal/Brown Cemetery, Flat Creek,
Overton County, Tennessee. He was a Private in Capt. J.R. Copeland's

Sergeant James Forrester PARROTT 28th Consolidated Infantry Mr. Parrott was wounded in the lower leg at Franklin, Tennessee. This injury required the amputation of his lower leg. TN and died June 7, 1914 in Overton County, Tennessee and is buried at Falling Springs Cemetery. He married 2nd time to Artelia ALLRED (pictured in the larger image) with daughter Sally. Artelia ALLRED was born about 1843 in Overton County, Tennessee and died February 18, 1915. She is buried at the Allred Cemetery. William R. STONE was a Confederate soldier from Clay
(then Overton) Co. He served in the Civil War, and applied for
pension, #S2111, Clay Co., TN. His application was filed on 17
August, 1899. At the time of the application, he stated he was
a resident of Oakley, Clay Co., TN.; that he was born in Overton
Co., TN. in the year 1826. He enlisted in May of 1861 in Capt.
James McHenry's Co., Col. John P. Murray's Regiment. He stated
that at the time of application, he was totally disabled due
to rheumatism contracted by exposure to the elements while in
active service. He was accepted on the pension roll with a monthly
pension of $8.33 1/3. (His tombstone says he was born 27 March,

Raleigh J. THOMPSON Raleigh THOMPSON joined the Confederate Army in late 1862 as a member of the O. P. Hamilton's Tennessee Command, sometimes called Hamilton's or Shaw's Battalion. In February 1863, Hamilton's Command rode to Florence, Alabama and joined with General Forrest's Brigade. Many of Hamilton's Command were attached to the 8th Dibrell's Cav. Co. E. He served until the surrender and returned to Overton County, Tennessee and became a prominent country doctor in the 1st & 2nd Districts of Overton County. Raleigh J. THOMPSON was born April 16, 1832 in Hamblen County, Tennessee died February 6, 1903 in Overton County, Tennessee and is buried in the Dodson Chapel Cemetery in Overton County, Tennessee.
