ADAMS Registered 6 January 1842 Mortgage This indenture made and entered into this 5th day of January in the year of our LORD 1842 between HEZEKIAH PICKENS of the one part and YOUNG & ADAMS and GEORGE G. ADAMS of the other part, all of the County of McNairy, State of Tennessee. Witnesseth that I, the said PICKENS, being justly indebted to the said Young and Adams in the sum of thirty six dollars and 12 cents due by note executed by me on this day and due on the 25th day of December 1842 and also due GEORGE G. ADAMS the sum of thirteen dollars and 88 cents and being anxious and desirous to secure them in the payment of the same have this day bargained, sold, and delivered unto them the following named property to wit: * Twenty barrels corn * Thirty head of hogs, considering of sows and pigs * One cow and calf * Two feather beds, and * Furniture, one dining table, one set of chairs * All my pots and * Dog Irons and * Loom To have and to hold as their own property until the 25th day of December at which time the above claims fall due and in case I, the said PICKENS, shall fail to well and truly satisfy all the claims, then and in that case, the said property may be sold at any time thereafter at the discretion of the said YOUNG AND ADAMS and GEORGE G. ADAMS for cash after advertising the same ten days. And in case the property should more than satisfy said claims with all cost and interest, then the said YOUNG AND ADAMS is to refund back the overplus, if any.
