The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ McNairy County, Tennessee Deed Book B, pp. 235-6 6 April 1841 JOHN DEVAULT To YOUNG & ADAMS Mortgage Know all men by these presents that I, JOHN DEVAULT, being justly indebted to YOUNG AND ADAMS in the just sum of forty dollars due by note and dated upon this day. And, being desirous to secure them in the payment of the same have bargained and sold and delivered unto them, the said YOUNG AND ADAMS, * Fifteen head of hogs, * One loom, * One bed, bedstead, and * Furniture, * One bull, and * All my kitchen furniture To have and to hold as their property until said debt and interest and cost is paid and satisfied. Now it is agreed that, if said debt is fully paid and satisfied by the 25th day of December next, then the obligation will be null and void, but if the said debt at that time remains unpaid or any part thereof, then the said property may be advertised and sold to [satisfy] said debt. If it brings more than the amount, the overpayment is to be paid to the said DEVAULT. If less, he is still bound to YOUNG AND ADAMS for the balance. April 6th, 1841. John Devault
