He was a member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, a Mason at Selmer Lodge #743, a former Scottish Rite, and a veteran of the U.S. Army-Korean War. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Jo Hockaday; one son, Robert Hockaday; and his parents, Bonna M. and Vera Garrett Hockaday. He is survived by his wife, Sue Gresham Hockaday; two daughters, Brenda Kilburn and Leigh Ann Keen of Selmer; one son, Mike Hockaday of Selmer; three sisters, Rose Marie Alonzo of Bloomingdale, IL, Faye Hollingsworth of Ramer, and Sue Huckabee of Cordova; four brothers, James E. She is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe Gilchrist; one daughter, Dorothy Pearl Gilchrist; one son, Jimmy Doyle Gilchrist, and her parents, Alex and Molly Garner Milford. She was the wife of Raymond Earl Malone formerly of Bethel Springs. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Malone of Beavercreek, Ohio; three daughters, Yvonne Ledford of Oklahoma City, Ramona Norman of Rawlette, TX, and Roxanne Albright of Waxhaw, NC; along with five grandchildren. After a funeral service in Ohio, burial took place at Beaville, Kansas where her parents lived and are buried. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FLAVIE IRENE PHILLIPS MEEK of Morris Chapel, 85, died Aug. 16, 2001 of complications from a stroke at Hardin County Healthcare Center. Mrs. Meek was a retired school teacher in Hardin and McNairy Counties for 36 years. She was a member of Enville United Methodist Church and was active in Mt. Zion and Milledgeville United Methodist Churches where she taught Sunday school, served on the official board, and was a delegate many times to the annual conference of the United Methodist Churches. She was very active in the Hardin County Retired Teachers Association and various community clubs. She and Mr. Meek were both very active in the McNairy County Farm Bureau and McNairy County Farmers Co-op. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Lee Meek; her parents, George Thomas Phillips and Chester Wilkins Phillips; one brother, J. B. Phillips; and four sisters, Opal Kemp, Pauline Everett, Bessie Ratliff, and Laura White. She is survived by one son, Phillips Meek and wife Carol of Sevierville; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Bonnie Phillips of Savannah and Lucille Hall of New Albany, MS; two grandchildren Phillip Meek II and Amanda Carole Meek of Sevierville. Mr. Winningham was a veteran of the Korean War in which he served in the Navy. He retired from the Navy after 21 years. He was also a brick mason, a member of Shrine and Al Chymia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Josie Brown Winningham. She enjoyed keeping her grandchildren and gr-grandchildren, and loved cooking, sewing, and working in her yard.
