Mr. King was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Joe King; a sister Pearl Woodward; and two brothers, Howard King and Gilbert King. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carol Ann Britton and Mrs. Pamela Joyce Faulkner, both of Ramer; and two sons, Mr. Ernest King of Howe, TX and Mr. Donald King of Whitewright, TX. He had nine grandchildren and eight gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 9th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Indian Creek in Ramer. ................ FLORENCE SMITH of Memphis, 83, died Sat., Feb. 7, 2004 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was Baptist in faith. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Janet Parsons and Mrs. Brenda Robison, both of Memphis; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Lessie Hickman of Houston, TX. She had three grandchildren and nine gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Mon., Feb. 9th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Selmer. Burial followed at Cave Springs Cemetery. ................ BETTY MARSHALL ROBINSON of Bethel Springs, 59, died Feb. 4, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mrs. Robinson was an office manager at Quinco Mental Health Center. She was a counselor with Camp Bluebird. She was a member of Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Cratie Maxwell Marshall; and a brother, Carl Marshall, Jr. She is survived by her husband James Robinson; two daughters, Nancy Robinson Kelley of Collierville and Leigh Ann Scott of Fairview; a sister, Annie McAlpin of Middleton; and a brother, David Marshall of Bartlett. She had three grandchildren, Jesse Kelley, Austin Kelley and Brandon Scott. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 6th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Ministers Malcom George and Randy Mead officiating. Burial followed at New Salem Cemetery in Bethel Springs. ................ "JR" DOYLE RAY RUSHING, II of Henderson, 45, died Feb. 2, 2004 at Medical Park Hospital in Hope, AR. Mr. Rushing owned and operated JR Transports in Henderson. He was born in Memphis and raised in Michie, the son of the late Doyle Ray Rushing, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Couch Rushing. He attended schools at Michie. He was a jeweler and car dealer, owner of JR Motors in Henderson and Corinth, MS, and most recently owned and operated Jr. Transports in Henderson. He was a member of Michie Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Earnest Rushing of Henderson; two sons, Doyle Ray Rushing II "Buck" and Thomas Bruce Rushing, both of Tupelo, MS; a daughter, Brandy Dawn Kelley of Henderson; a brother, Gene Rushing of Michie; and a half sister, Ann Rushing of Tupelo, MS. He had two grandchildren, Kendal Rushing and Brittany Rouse. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 5th at Casey Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Eddie Martin Officiating. Burial followed at Henderson City Cemetery. ................ RUBY ANN CURRY TUTOR of Corinth, MS, 85, died Fri., Feb. 6, 2004 at Corinth Health and Rehab. She was a member of East Corinth Church of Christ. She loved going to church and loved her family and friends. She also loved having her flowers. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Dallas "Boss" Curry; her mother Elizabeth "Lizzie" Clements Curry; her husband William Bradford Tutor; two brothers, Bill Curry and wife Mary and Joe Curry and wife Rebecca; one sister, Eddie Curry and three brothers-in-law. Jody Obar, Charles Christian and Fred Hatley. She is survived by three sons, John W. Tutor, Sr. and wife Shirley of Glen, MS, Jimmy C. Tutor and wife Bettye of Corinth, MS and Stephen D. Tutor and wife Barbara of Selmer; two brothers, Charles Curry and wife Katie of Tupelo, MS and Hugh Curry and wife Dot of Houston, MS; four sisters, Ethel Obar of Houston, MS, Vernece Robbins and hursband Rush of Tipelo, MS, Mary Williams and Audrey Hatley, both of Corinth, MS; several nieces, nephews, other relative and a host of friends. She had six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight gr-grandchildren, and three step-gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 8th at Magnolia Chapel of Memories, with Earl Case officiating. ORVILLE BILL RICKMAN of Selmer, 78, died Feb. 4, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mr. Rickman was a Superintendent with TDOT for 35 years, a former Superintendent of Selmer Street/Water Department, and former Selmer City Policeman. He was a member of FOP, WOW and the Lions Club, and also a member of Selmer Second Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfe and Helen Roberts Rickman. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Rickman; a son, Joe David Rickman of Selmer; and a brother, Willard Rickman of Selmer. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 6th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Frank Whitman, Brother Tony Polk, and Don Yancey officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer. ................ ARTHUR RAY ANDERSON of Ramer, 78, died Feb. 4, 2004 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, MS. Mr. Anderson was a retired Superintendent with the Ramer Water Department. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Arthur and Zadie Parmley Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Betty Faulkner Anderson; a son, Donald Anderson of Huntsville, AL; a daughter, Angela Boyette of Ramer; and a sister, Virginia Jones of Memphis. He had one grandchild, Matthew Anderson. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 7th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Chris O'Keefe officiating. Mrs. Freeman was retired from Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Reagan. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Neal Gladish; her mother, Mamie Morgan Gladish; her husband, Curtis Freeman; a brother, John Lee Gladish; and two grandchildren. She is survived by two son, James Rickman of Byhalia, MS and Bobby Rickman of Higdon, AL; one daughter, Ann Taylor of Sardis; one step- daughter, Loretta Jones of Henderson; two brothers, L. D. Gladish of Stantonville and George Gladish of Michie; and a sister, Ione Cofer of Bolivar. She had ten grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and ten gr-grandchildren. THOMAS NEAL BELTON of Adamsville, 81, died Feb. 11, 2004 at Veterans Administration Medical Center. Mr. Belton was a retired heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was a member of the International Unit of Operating Engineers. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, having earned a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars with Oakleaf Clusters. He was a member of Pine Hill Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Floyd Belton; his mother, Grace Hilliard Belton; his wife of fifty-two years Dorothy Belton; one sister, Evelyn Speaks; one grandchild and one gr- grandchild. He is survived by three sons, Brady Belton and Timmy Belton, both of Leapwood, and Randy Belton of Covington; six daughters, Lydia Belton of Memphis, Vicki Bradley of Brighton, Sonya Broussard of Mount Belvieu, TX, Dana Dunwoody of Leapwood, Candy Farrar of Cordova and Janet Belton Howard of Savannah; and two sisters, Norma Sparks of Eads and Denera Tillman of Cordova. He had twenty grandchildren and seventeen gr- grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 13th at Shackelford Chapel in Adamsville, with Minister Don Lipford officiating. Burial followed at Mars Hill Cemetery in Adamsville. .............. ALBINA MARSHALL of Bethel Springs, 98, died Feb. 10, 2004 at Chester County Nursing Home. Mrs. Marshall worked in a hospital housekeeping department. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Selmer. She is survived by a son, Leopold P. Downer of Bethel Springs; and a daughter, Francis Marshall of Hinsdale, IL. She had several grandchildren and gr-grandchildren. SMITH of Selmer, 80, died Feb. 13, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Smith was retired from farming and the Crockett Mills Gin Company. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon of Pleasant Site Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper E. and Nora Bell Golightly Smith; and his wife, Mary Florence Smith. He is survived by a son, Perry B. Smith of Selmer; a daughter, Shirley Plaxico of Selmer; and five sisters, Elizabeth Burns of Selmer, Carolyn Elaine Cooper of Bethel Springs, Martha Leatherwood and Gloria Morgan, both of Corinth, MS, and Mary Frances Zimmerman of Brownsville. Burial followed at Lake Hill Memorial Gardens. .............. JIMMY INGLE of Ramer, 61, died Feb. 13, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mr. Ingle was a self-employed carpenter. He was Baptist in faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gardy and Delphie Houston Ingle. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ingle; a son, Christopher Ingle of Ramer; two brothers, Tommy Ingle and William Dale Ingle, both of Ramer; and three sisters, Jo Ann Davis and Maverine Martin, both of Ramer, and Maelene Fowler of Guys. HICKS of Selmer, 79, died Feb. 15, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer. She was a retried seamstress from Brown Shoe Company in Selmer. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Houston Murphy and Verdie Elizabeth King Murphy; and her husband, Arlie Cecil Hicks. She is survived by a son, Arlie M. Hicks of Selmer; a daughter, Carolyn Carroll of Selmer; and two sisters, Essie Sisk of Selmer and Oleen Alexander of Somerville. She had four grandchildren, Patty Vickers, Tammy Cooper, Rusy Hicks, and Ryan Hicks; five gr-grandchildren ad one gr-gr-grandchild. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper, Wed., Feb. 25, 2004 WILLIAM RALPH MITCHELL of Bethel Springs, 67, died Feb. 17, 2004 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Mr. Mitchell was a retired installer and repairman for South Central Bell. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers. He was a member of the United Pentecostals of Bethel Springs Church, and past Worshipful Master in Selmer Lodge #741 Free and Accepted Masons. He was preceded in death by his father, Alva D. Mitchell; and his mother, Allie Bell Williams Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mitchell; two daughters, Laura Bender of Valparaiso, IN and Lisa Trombley of Pinson; three sons, Jim Mitchell, William Mitchell, Jr., and Jeff Mitchell, Sr., all of Bethel Springs; two sisters, Geraldine Sims and Joyce Sims, both of Selmer, and a brother, Joe Mitchell of Selmer. He had eleven grandchildren and two step-gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 21st at Bethel Springs Pentecostal Church, with Minister Jeff Young officiating. KISER of Selmer, 47, died Feb. 21, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Ms. Kiser was a disabled LPN. She was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Ramer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Betty Howell Tackett; and one sister, Paula June Tackett. She is survived by two sons, Randall Aaron Kiser and Randall Chase Kiser, both of Selmer; a daughter, April Michelle Kiser of Selmer; a brother James Paul Tackett of Ramer; and two sisters, Pat Rogers, of Hornsby and Joyce Thompson of Selmer. She had three grandchildren. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 24th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Selmer. ........... RAY DEYWONE "DONNIE" BULLMAN of Henderson, 73, died Feb. 22, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Bullman was born in the Hopewell Community of Chester County, the son of the late William Odis and Pearl Gately Bullman. He went to school at Poplar Springs. He was married to Inetha Massengill in 1947. They made their home in the Sweetlips Community and Mr. Bullman worked at the Henderson Compress for 19 year. He then worked at Salant & Salant Mfg., Quality Tool & Die, and also at Henson Ford and the Massey Ferguson Tractor Dealership. Mrs. Bullman died in 1983. He was married again in 1984 and continued to make his home in the Sweetlips Community. Mr. Bullman worked in the high school cafeteria and drove the school bus for the Chester County School System until he retired in 2001. He was a member of the Sweetlips Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Bullman and Wayne Bullman. He is survived by his second wife, Patsy Joan Owen Ross Bullman of Henderson; one son, Tiny Ray Bullman and wife Diane of Henderson; one daughter, Shelia Ward and husband Jimmy of Henderson; one stepson, Shannon Ross of Enville; one stepdaughter, Tracy Scott and husband Robert of Henderson; and one brothers, W. O. Bullman of Henderson. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 24th at Casey Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tiny Ray Bullman officiating. Burial followed at Sweetlips Cemetery. ........... CORA B. NIXON of Selmer, 94, died Feb. 20, 2004 at Mayfield Rehab Center in Smyrna. Mrs. Nixon was a homemaker. She was a member of Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Clayton and Mary Ann Kirk Clayton; and her husband, Albert Nixon. She is survived by a daughter, Elouise King of LaVergne; and a sister, Shirley Ayers of Ramer. She had six grandchildren, seven gr- grandchildren and five gr-gr-grandchildren. She was a stewardess at Jones Chapel CME Church. She was on the Missionary Board and was a choir member. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerimiah and Pearlina Rogers; five brothers, Hubert Herman, George, Nelson and Lawrence, Rogers, Jr.; four sister, Mabel Thompson, Winnie Bell Rogers, Marian Jones, and Bernice Duke. She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Goodloe and husband Barry of Barton, AL, Ingrid Martin of Chicago, IL, Kimberly Burgess of Iuka, MS, Jana Tensley and husband Von of Iuka, MS, and Deidera Martin of Selmer; other family members and friends. Arrangements were made by Grayson's Funeral Services. ........... WILLIAM ROBERT HUCKABEE of Stantonville, 80, died Feb. 21, 2004 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Mr. Huckabee was retired from Latta Ford Motor Company in Selmer. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a talented musician. He was preceded in death by his father, Twillie Bill Huckabee; his mother, Essie Pearl Moore Huckabee; and a son, Avery Huckabee. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Huckabee; a daughter, Ellon Potter of Selmer; two stepsons, Larry Mehr of Stantonville and Vern Mehr of Bethel Springs; and a sister, Ruth Matlock of Ramer. He had ten grandchildren and twelve gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tues., Feb. 24th at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, with Minister Vern Mehr officiating. Burial followed at Friendship Cemetery in Ramer. ........... CARLIE ANN CRUSE of Ramer, 100, died Feb. 22, 2004 at McNairy County Health Care Center. Mrs. Cruse was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church in Pocahontas. She loved to sew and make quilts, even at age 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Susie Carter Smith; her husband, W. F. Cruse; and her son-in-law, Harlon Ray Austin. She is survived by six sons, Leon Cruse, Leslie Cruse,, and William Cruse, all of Pocahontas, Buddy Cruse, of Hammond, IN, Woodrow Cruse, of Highland, IN , and James Cruse, of Moscow; and a daughter, Louise Wilbanks of Ramer. She had twenty grandchildren, twenty-four gr- grandchildren , and eight gr-gr-grandchildren. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Mar. 3, 2004 PAUL DEAN LOTT of Finger, age 51, died Feb. 23, 2004 at his home. Mr. Lott was a member of Central Baptist Church in Selmer. He was born and reared in McNairy County, the son of Robert E. "Jack" and Mildred Sanders Lott. He graduated from McNairy Central High School in 1970. He was married to Marilyn Bailey of Jacks Creek in 1971. He first worked for Leaseco Truck Rentals, which became Rollins and is now Penske Truck Leasing, where he was a service manager. He is survived by his father and mother, Robert E. and Mildred Sanders Lott of Finger; his wife, Marilyn Denise Bailey Lott; two daughters, Brandi Lott McAdams and husband Kevin, and Sandy Lott Scarbrough and husband Shawn, all of Finger; a brother, Jerry Lott and wife Linda of Selmer; and a sister, Lola Doyle and husband Tommy of Bethel Springs. He had four grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter McAdams, and Chelsie and Gage Scarbrough. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 25th at Casey Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother James Smith officiating. Mr. Moore died Tues., Mar. 9, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness. The member of Rienzi Baptist Church was owner of Triple M Transport, and he loved farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. James Henry and Wesley Pauline Moore, formerly of Selmer; one daughter, Dana Moore; one brother, Paul Moore; one niece, Vicki Ann Bishop; and one nephew, Jimmy Wayne Moore, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Cathy Johnsey Moore; one daughter, Lori Leigh Moore of Rienzi; one son, Brandon Wesley Moore of Rienzi; one sister-in-law, Sue Hively and her husband Bill of Corinth, MS; two grandsons, Taylor Wesley Moore and Kirkland Allen Moore; and several nieces and nephews. ............. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Elvin Emmons Lipford; her husband, Charlie H. Burns; a daughter, Marion Kay Burns; and a granddaughter, Molly Burns. Mrs. Garrison was a retired elementary school teacher, after 40 years of service, and an active community leader. She was a member of West Shiloh Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She worked on the McNairy County Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Annie Kennedy Tedford; her husband, Allen H. Garrison; and a granddaughter, Robin Ashe. She is survived by a son, Charlie Garrison of Stantonville; two daughters, Doris Ashe and Kay Raines, both of Stantonville; and two sisters, Gracie Burks and Lois Naylor, both of Stantonville. WILLIE JOE FITZGERALD of Bethel Springs, formerly of Memphis, 79, died Mar. 10, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Fitzgerald was a retired truck driver for P.I.E. Truckline. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was retired from the Teamsters Union. He was a member of Selmer Golf and County Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, John DeWitt Fitzgerald and Hattie Clement Fitzgerald; and his wife, Margaret Laverne Fitzgerald.
