Mrs. Gee was a homemaker. She was born and reared in McNairy County, daughter of the late Sherman Franklin and Josey Smith Russell. She attended schools in McNairy County. She was married to Conon Miller in 1926 and he died in 1928. In 1933 she married Robert Elwood "Jack" Gee of the Silerton Community. They farmed in Hardin County and McNairy County. They lived most of their married life in the Refuge Community of McNairy Co. Mr. Gee was killed in a car accident in Nov. 1974. Mrs. Gee continued to make her home in the Refuge Community until she got in poor health, and went to the Chester County Nursing Home. She was a very active member of the Refuge Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Robbie Gee, who died in 1971; three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by three sons, Max Gee of Bethel Springs, Jimmy Gee and wife Linda of Hornsby, and Robert Gee and wife Tammy of Michie; three daughters, Linda Vernese Reed and husband W.G. of Memphis, Kathy Maness and husband Jacky of Henderson and Billie Autry and husband Jerry of Bethel Springs; and a sister, Loat Hickman of Finger. She had twelve grandchildren and twelve gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sun., July 6th at Refuge Church of Christ, with Brother Omer Duberry and Brother George Hickman officiating. LUCILLE COX of Jackson, formerly of McNairy County, 93, died Thurs., July 3, 2003 at Maplewood Health Care Center in Jackson. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and former McNairy County School Bus Driver. She was the first female bus driver in McNairy County. She was preceded in death by her father, Crump McCalip; her mother, Nealie Alma Haynes McCalip; her husband, Elmer Cox; a son, Charles Mason Cox; a daughter, Ann Lanell Cox Robinson; a brother, Mason McCalip; and two sisters, Grace Whitten and Inetha Henley. She is survived by a daughter, Clara Mae Ray of Jackson. She had six grandchildren and six gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., July 6th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Jimmy Bedwell officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Gilead Cemetery near Selmer. .................. AMBER WILSON WATKINS, age 25 of Selmer and formerly of Springfield, died Sun., June 29, 2003 at her home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., July 3rd in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home, with the Reverend J.J. Wheelbarger officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens in Springfield. She was born on July 1, 1977 in Davidson County. She was a United Methodist and a Homemaker. Mrs. Watkins is survived by her husband, Randy Watkins of Selmer; sons, Jeffery, Tyler and Jacob Barnhardt, all of Cedar Hill; two stepsons, Jay Weatherford and Colt Watkins, both of Selmer; her father, James "Sandy" Wilson of Owens Chapel; her mothers Rita Minnis Warren of Corinth, MS; grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas H. Minnis and Sally Wilson, all of Springfield; a gr-grandmother, Pauline Heatherly of Springfield; a step-sister, Kristin Long of Lavergne; a step-grandchild, Taylor Holland; and a gr-uncle, Marshall Horn of Selmer. Robertson County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. .................. GLADYS VERDA NORTH HUGGINS was born in 1903 and lived most of her life in the Gravel Hill area. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lafayette North and Ada Mae Springer North; a brother, Aber Frank North of San Antonio, TX; two baby sisters, Lois and Lavera; and Earl, a baby brother. She is also preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Huggins and a son, James Royce Huggins, who died at five years of age. She is survived by a son, Donald Eugene Huggins; his wife Donna; grandson Trent Huggins and Jeffrey Huggins; and a granddaughter, Leala Huggins. She also leaves a daughter, Ada Ellen Huggins Schumacher and husband Paul W. J. Schumacher; granddaughter Joyce Schumacher of Columbus, OH; grandsons Kirby Schumacher of Dayton, OH and Kevin Schumacher of Felton, MN and wife Linda, Robert Paul and Kevin Phillips; granddaughters Kristin and Lacy; and gr-grandchildren. She also leaves four nieces, children of her brother, Frank North, Joyce, Beverly, and Carolyn of Texas and Sally of Wellesly, MA; also nieces ad nephews and cousins from the Huggins, Springer and North families; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alta Pickering of McNairy County, along with a host of friends. She was the oldest member in the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. She loved her church as her family, and also her friends at the McNairy Co. Health Care Center. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper July 23, 2003 JAMES ROSS LITTLEJOHN of Guys, 67, died July 19, 2003 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mr. Littlejohn was a farmer. He was a former Sunday School Supt. and Training Union Director at Pleasant Site Baptist Church. He was a former Honorary Deputy with the McNairy County Sheriff's Department. He helped organize the Pleasant Site Volunteer Fire Department. He loved fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Littlejohn. He is survived by his mother, Ora Mae Gardner Littlejohn of Guys; two sons, Kenneth Littlejohn of Ramer and James Keith Littlejohn of Abbingdon, VA; two daughters, Rita Lynn Crum of Guys and Teena Littlejohn of Selmer; two grandchildren, LeAnn Crum and Justin Crum; a sister, Ernestine Jaggars of Ramer; and a brothers, Charles Thomas Littlejohn of Selmer. She was a past PTA President and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of First Christian Church and of the Lady Lions of Adamsville. She is survived by her husband, Joe Arendall of Adamsville; a son, Larry Arendall of Savannah; two daughters, Beth Gurley of Germantown and Janet Jerrolds of Savannah; and two sisters, Callie May of Savannah and Flora DeCourley of Memphis. Niece of the late Celeste Higginbottom, George Albert Williams and Maness Williams, and granddaughter of the late Joseph Edward and Joe Ellen Williams, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Farrell Henry. He was a volunteer for McNairy County Emergency Management Agency. He was an U.S. Air Force WWII Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ermic and Blanch Hewitt McCullar; a granddaughter, Jenna Lee McCullar; and a sister, Dorothy Wagoner. Survivors include his wife, Frances Foot McCullar; three sons, David McCullar and wife Gail of Bethel Springs, Danny Ray McCullar of Jackson, and Eddie McCullar and wife Laura of Nashville; two grandsons, Ashley McCullar and Trice McCullar; two sisters, Cecil Murray of Savannah and Rena McCullar of Selmer; and a brother, Jamie McCullar of Selmer. Funeral services for Mrs. Nixon were held Mon., July 14th at 1 p.m. at the Shackelford Chapel in Selmer, with Pastor Roy Bennett and William Axley officiating. Burial followed in the Michie Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Billy Paul Terry, Tony Terry, Benji Briley, Greg Mills, Terry Baker, and Mark Rainbolt. Mrs. Nixon was Pentecostal by faith and a professional cook for St. Clair Restaurant. She was united in marriage to Larry Wade Nixon, who survives. Other than her husband, Mrs. Nixon is survived by a daughter, Denise Nixon Bennett of Michie; two sons, Wade Nixon of Michie and Terry Lynn Nixon of Ramer; two sisters, Anna Elizabeth White and Mary Rubel Austin, both of Savannah; and eight grandchildren, Brittney and Andrew Gann, Madalyn, Ryan and Abby Nixon, Bailey, Brooke, and Bethany Bennett. He was past President of Savannah Lions Club. He was on the Board of Directors of Savannah Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ashe of Selmer; two sons, Albert David Ashe and William Ronald Ashe, both of Savannah; and a brother, Wilburn Gene Ashe of Selmer. He had four grandchildren, Paige Ashe McLean, Robin Ashe, Whit Ashe and James Lee Ashe. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sun., July 13th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. ARMSTRONG of Arlington, 77, died July 11, 2003 at Methodist Health Care in Germantown. Mrs. Armstrong was retired from the optical business. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by two sons, Monty Armstrong of Arlington and Tommy Armstrong of Selmer; and a brother, Leo French of Shawnee. She had five grandchildren and one gr-grandchild. BROOKS of Selmer, 79, died July 21, 2003 at McNairy County Healthcare Center. Mr. Brooks was a retired farmer and barber. He was a member of Wheeler grove Baptist Church and the V.F.W. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Janie Jobe Brooks; four brothers, Carlin Brooks, Troy Brooks, and Hall Brooks; and three sisters, Eddie Faye Steadman, Mary Gann, and Evelyn Yopp. He is survived by a daughter, Rowena Pope of Selmer; a son, Anthony Brooks of Selmer; two brothers, James Edward Brooks, and Charles Brooks, both of Pocahontas, and his former spouse, Joyce Brooks of Selmer. Clarence was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Bobby Gene and Sarah Lynn Ledlow Johnson of Guys; his grandparents, Jerry Wayne and Mackie Sue Johnson of Lutts and Gary and Linda Ledlow of Waynesboro; his gr-grandfather, Hammond Aries of Waynesboro; a brother, Bobby Gene Johnson, Jr. of Guys; and a sister Katlyn Rose Johnson of Guys. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., July 26th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Savannah. Burial followed at the Johnson Family Cemetery in Lutts. ................ JAMES M. SMITH, 68, of Hornsby, died July 25, 2003 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The husband of Doris Herman Smith, who survives, he was a retired maintenance worker with Harman Automotive, where he had worked for 32 years. He was born on Oct. 1, 1934 in Walnut, MS, son of the late Claude Dewy Smith and Isabell Barber Smith, and lived around the Middleton area for about 50 years. Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 28th at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Bolivar, with Adrian Knipper officiating. Burial was in Powell's Chapel Cemetery. In addition to his wife, whom he married on May 25, 1957, survivors include four daughters, Cathy Shields, Angie Ingle, Tammy Swain and Kelly Smith, all of Hornsby; four sons, Allen Smith of Hornsby, David Smith of Middleton, Danny Smith of Selmer, and Brad Smith of Hornsby; two sisters, Ruby Dean Smith of Ashland, MS and Kathleen Pannell of Walnut, MS; a brother, W. JAMES THOMAS MARSH, "TOMMY MUSHY" of Corinth, MS, 52, died Mon., July 21, 2003 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Mr. Marsh was a member, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and member of the choir of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. His life exemplified the passages in Psalm 1:1-3 and Psalm 37:23. He was a farmer, owner of Marsh Logging Company and currently worked for Mississippi Department of Transportation. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed being with people and playing games. He was preceded in death by a father-in-law, Joseph "Pete" Jones; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Jones and wife Marsha. He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Deborah Jones Marsh of Corinth, MS; a daughter, Amanda LeAnne Marsh of Corinth, MS who for the past four years has been serving as a missionary in the U.S., Wales, Thailand, Nepal, India, and England; two sons, John Daniel "Dan" Marsh and wife Emily and James Joseph "Joe" Marsh, who surrendered to the Ministry in 2000 and has been serving as a missionary in Las Vegas, Nev. And the Philippines, all of Corinth MS; a grandson, Julian Max Marsh of Corinth, MS; his father, James "Buck" Marsh and wife Amanda of Corinth, MS; his mother, Ruth Hinton Marsh of Corinth, MS; two sisters, Janice Marsh Knighton and Linda Marsh Hardin, both of Corinth, MS; two step-brothers, David Bray and Ben Inman, both of Corinth, MS; a mother-in-law, four brothers-in-law and wives; two sisters-in-law and husbands; twenty one nieces and nephews and one gr-niece; several uncles, aunts, other relatives and a host of friends. BIRDIE MAE MELTON LOCKE of Ramer, 93, died July 24, 2003 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, MS. Mrs. Locke was a retired grocery store owner. She was a member of Antioch Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Larcenia Leatherwood Melton; her husband, Erbie Locke; and a son, Herbert Lee Locke. She is survived by two sons, Dale Locke and Erbie "Junior" Locke, both of Ramer; and a daughter, Grace Collins of Ramer. She had seven grandchildren and six gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sat., July 26th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Richard Doyle officiating. Burial followed at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. ................ Services for KENNETH M. SPRINGER, age 72, were Sat., July 26th at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer, with the Reverend Mike Pilcher officiating. Mr. Springer died Thurs., July 24, 2003 at McNairy County Regional Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Springer was born on Aug. 21, 1930, the son of Vonley and WELTHA Springer of Gravel Hill. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Marie Phillips Springer; two daughters, Debbie Nerren and husband Harold of Jackson and Ann Manley and husband Bruce of Selmer; four grandchildren, Kelly Barnes and husband David, Nick Nerren, Daniel Roten and Christy Roten; and three sisters, Mrs. Ann Hamm and Mrs. Dale Ayers, both of Ramer, and Mrs. Carolyn Powell of Tupelo, MS. Mr. Springer was a retired SM/Sgt. In the U.S. Air Force, being a member of the medical team for the original seven astronauts at Cape Canaveral, FL. After his retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Selmer. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a member of the first United Methodist Church of Selmer. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. ................ MARTH BEATRICE MOSIER WHITE of Henderson, 82, died July 27, 2003 at Jackson General Hospital. Mrs. White was a homemaker. She was Baptist in Belief. She was born and reared in the New Delite Community near Lawton, the daughter of the late David A. and Daisy Whitman Mosier. She grew up near Lawton and attended schools in New Delite. She was married to Luther Mitchell "Luke" White in 1945. They made their home in Chester County, where Mr. White farmed and owned and operated the Club Alamo, and Mrs. White helped him in the business. Mr. White died in 1976. She continued to make her home in Henderson and most recently at Heritage Towers, before moving to Selmer. She is survived by a son, Wayne White and wife Jannie of Henderson; two brothers, Buford Mosier and Olus Mosier, both of Henderson; and three sisters, Jean Farley of Henderson and Madge Whitten and Judy Clayton, both of Selmer. She had four grandchildren, Luther Wayne White, Samantha Jayne White, Penny Estes and husband Eddie, and Joshua White and wife Molly. She had six gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tues., July 29th at Casey Funeral Home, with the reverend Frank Whitman officiating. Burial followed at Pounds Cemetery. ................ JAMES PRENTICE HEAD of Pocahontas, 54 died July 24, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Head was retired from the U.S. Army and employed with Taylor Lumber Co. He attended Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Sevier and Gladys Mae Deming Hear; three brothers, Amos Edmond Head, William Lawrence Head and Linzie Head; and three sisters, Verble Levelle Bendall, India Lucille Roberts, and Lottie Mar Ray, both of Selmer, Francis Inex Byrd of Memphis, Carolyn Irene Barclay of Ramer and Mary Barclay Grammer of Pocahontas. BONNIE KAY WHITE, 49, of Guys, died Fri., July 25, 2003 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The wife of Tony White, who survives, she was a homemaker. She was born on Apr. 30, 1054 in Memphis, daughter of the late John and Joan Forshea Russell, and lived for a time in Pocahontas. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Mon., July 28th at Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Guys, with David Cooper officiating. In addition to her husband, whom she married on Aug. 21, 1970, survivors include a stepdaughter and stepson, Sheila Kostanko and Tony A. White, both of Dallas, TX; a son John W. White of Pocahontas; and five grandchildren. ................
