He was a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the National Guard. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 335 and American Legion Post No. 207. He was an employee of Tyson Furniture. For many years he was employed by the United States Veterans Administration as a caretaker of the Corinth National Cemetery. He was a member of the City Road CME Church and attended Saulters Chapel CME Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend W. H. Ratliff and Clara Ratliff. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ratliff; a daughter, Nicole Mays; a sister, Sereas Keith; and four brothers, W. D. Ratliff and wife Betty, Bobby Ratliff, Tommy Ratliff and wife Ernestine, and Autry Ratliff. Other family included a mother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, two aunts, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held at 12 noon on Fri., May 9th at Rest MB Church, with the Reverend Terry Alexander officiating. Burial followed at Corinth National Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. ..................... BILLY JOE RENFROE of Selmer, 55, died May 6, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Renfroe was a shipping foreman. He worked at Quebecor World in Corinth, MS for over 25 years. He lived in Selmer for 26 years. He previously lived in Memphis. He was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, W. E. Renfroe. He is survived by his mother, Claudell Reed Renfroe of Parsons; his wife, Nancy Manera Renfroe; two daughters, Stacy Kennedy and her husband Jason of Ramer and Stephanie Franks and her husband Chris of Adamsville; a brother, Jerry Renfroe of Milan; two sisters, June Meeks of Bartlett and Pat Dodds of Carey, NC; and three grandchildren, Shayne Fowler, Shelby Kennedy and Macy Franks. SARAH VIRGINIA "SALLIE" JONES CHERRY of Savannah, 98, died May 8, 2003 at Tri-County Convalescent Home in Adamsville. Mrs. Cherry was former owner of Cherry's Restaurant. She was born in Hardin County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the United Daughters of Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cherry. She is survived by two daughters, Mary F. Browder of Selmer and Virginia Cherry Jones of Germantown; and a brother, Joe H. Jones of Memphis. She had six grandchildren and seven gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sat., May 10th at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah. Burial followed at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah. ........ JOHNNIE VERA McDANIEL of Stantonville, 89, died May 9, 2003 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Miss McDaniel graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Science degree on Aug. 18, 1956. She was a retired teacher after 41 years with the McNairy County School System. She taught school at Gilchrist, Union Grove, Stantonville and Selmer. She was a member of West Shiloh Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William T. and Josie Patrick McDaniel; a sister, Ruby Garrison; and a brother, Billy McDaniel. She is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Stader of Memphis; and a brother, Edward McDaniel, Sr. of Stantonville. She had four nephews and three nieces. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., May 11th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Jerry Woods officiating. Burial followed at West Shiloh Cemetery in Stantonville. ............... THEODORE MANNON COTNER of Adamsville, 88, died May 7, 2003 at Hardin County General Hospital. Mr. Cotner was a farmer and factory worker. He was Baptist in belief. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Charles Cotner; his mother, Daisy Jane Jefferies Cotner; and his wife. Sarah Artie Cotner. He is survived by two daughters, Artie Jane Smith and Ruby Jean Cotner, both of Adamsville; and three sons, Johnny Cotner and George Cotner both of Adamsville, James Cotner of Bethel Springs. He had twelve grandchildren and thirteen gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Fri., May 9th at Shackelford Chapel, in Adamsville, with Minister Steven Callicoatt officiating. Burial followed at Adamsville Cemetery in Adamsville. ............. E. G. BURKS of Michie, 69, died May 9, 2003 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mr. Burks did construction work and farming. He was Baptist in belief. He was a member of Adamsville Lodge-Master Mason, Worship Master, and Scottish Rites-York Rites. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Kellie Strawn Burks; and a brother, T. W. Burks. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Griffin Burks; two sons, Donald Wayne Childers of Guys and Lannie Melvin Childers of Booneville, MS; three daughters, Linda Mills of Corinth, MS and Kelly Sullivan and Tracy Sullivan, both of Gary, IN; three brothers, Charles Burks and Alton Burks, both of Michie, and Jimmy Burks of Shiloh; and two sisters, Elliane Thacker of Michie and Jo Ann Sweat of Shiloh. He had fourteen grandchildren, Dallas Smith, Shane Childers, Marie Tally Bergman, Melvin Childers, Lisa Childers Hill, Jessica Childers, Chasity Gann, Elysha Mills, Kathy Mills, Star Lynn Sullivan, Sky Lynn Sullivan, Shane Sullivan, Jeremy Sullivan and Joshua Sullivan; and three gr-grandchildern, Ethan Smith, Adam Bergman and Makayla Glidewell. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Mon., May 12th at Shackelford Chapel in Acton, with Ministers Robert Hutson and Chadrick Hill officiating. She was preceded in death by a son, Jason Keith Blagg; a sister, Linda Blagg Kindberg; and her father, James Floyd Blagg. She is survived by her mother, Ivalee Blagg and step-father, Frank Kubica of Jackson; a brother, Keith Blagg and wife Nancy of Minneapolis, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends. BUSH of Corinth, MS, 78, died May 6, 2003 in Fenton, MI. She was a graduate of Scale Street High School, retired from Kimberly Clark. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and talking with people and caring for her family. She was a member of Sedell Chapter of Easter Star #316. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Willie Whitmore; four brothers, Delbert Whitmore, Benjamin Whitmore, Hillie Whitmore, and Freddie Whitmore, Sr.; three sisters, Georgia Sorrell, Magnolia Sims, and Annie Walker; and a son, Freddie Jones, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Jessie Bush; a son, Anthony Bush of Baldwyn, MS; two daughters, Shirley D. Nichols of Detroit, MI and Cherita Y. Bush of Corinth, MS; a brother, Willie D. Whitmore of Detroit, MI; and a sister, Mary McKee Whitmore of Corinth, MS. She had six grandchildren, Corey Ware, Shawn Jones, Freddie Jones, Jr., Cheron Bush, Chris Bush, and Rashad Bush; and a gr-grandchild, Sydney Jones. Patterson Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. .............. JUSTIN HILL, 55, of Pinson passed away Thurs., Apr. 24, 2003 at Jackson-Madison County Hospital. Justin was born in McNairy County, Aug. 6, 1947 to James E. and Jimmie Lois Hill. Justin Attended Purdy Elementary School and graduated from Bethel Springs High School. He met the love of his life, Barbara Clifton, at Pickwick Lake in 1973. They married June 28, 1974 at the Presbyterian Church in Selmer. Soon after their marriage, Justin and Barbara started Justin's Tomato Company in a small building adjacent to their home in Bethel Springs. They moved their home and business to Jackson in 1977. As their business expanded they relocated again to Pinson where it flourishes today. Justin was a history buff and a collector of Coca-Cola and John Deere memorabilia. He also enjoyed small pocketknives and had many in his collection. Justin had a passion for flower gardening and planting. Justin was widely known for his generosity and good will. He was also universally loved by his many friends and customers. Justin was preceded in death by his father and sister, Renee. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Pinson; his mother, Jimmie Lois Chavez of Huffman, TX; his brother, Victory and wife B.J. of Enville; his sister, Regina Sharp and husband James of Linden; his sister, Taffy Hill, of Huffman, TX; and six nephews, two nieces, and several grand nephews and nieces. Services were held Sat., Apr. 26th at George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home. Interment was at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson. He will be in our hearts forever. .............. PAIRLEE SARRELLS of Adamsville, 90, died Sat., May 10, 2003 at McNairy County Regional Hospital. Mrs. Sarrells was a homemaker. She attended Church of God of Prophecy. She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Sarrells; a son-in-law, James Bromley; and a grandson, Danny Whitehead. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Gay Mixon and husband Gene of Shannon, MS and Fay Bromley of Adamsville,. She had three grandchildren, Donna Fesmire, Tammy Cunningham and Wayne Blair; three gr-grandchildren, D. J. Whitehead, Bethanie Casey and Leia Mixon; and one gr-gr-grandchild, Katlin Casey. Miss Walker was a retired Senior Teller at First Tennessee Bank in Memphis, following 31 years of service. She was a member of Hickory Flats Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Myrtle Harris Walker; a sister, Nellie Walker; and a brother, Rayburn N. Walker She is survived by an adopted son, Ricky Lynn Mitchell of Adamsville; a niece, Nancy Owens; and two nephews, Nicky Owens and Tony Owns. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Tues., May 20th at Christian Assembly Pentecostal Church in Adamsville, with W. D. McCollum and Elmer D. Seaton officiating. CHESTER LEROY PARSONS of Hornsby, 77, died May 16, 2003 at Pine Meadows Health Care in Bolivar. Mr. Parsons was retired from Troxel Mfg. Co. He was Baptist in faith. He was a member of the Elks Club. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Ester Lee Davis Parsons; and two brothers, Clyde Parsons and Julian Parsons. He is survived by three sons, Timmy O. Parsons and Roy Wayne Parsons, both of Hornsby and Michael Lee Parsons of Jackson; and a sister Rumelie Cude of Corinth, MS. He had five grandchildren. She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eulas G. and Beatrice Pegram Wilson; a sister, Famie Lou Wilson; and a brother, Gerald Wilson. She is survived by a son, Garrett Shane Norlin of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Charlene Trantham of Corinth, MS and Jean Upright of Bethel Springs; and four brothers, Jere Pegram and Jerry Don Wilson, both of Bethel Springs, Richard Wilson of Cordova, and Sidney Wilson of Downers Grove, IL. WALTER RAY BOLES of Heth, AR, 55, died May 12, 2003 at Methodist of Germantown Hospital in Germantown. Mr. Boles was owner and operator of Boles Grocery. He attended Shell Lake Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Boles of Heth, AR; a son, Michael Boles of Heth, AR; a daughter, Amy Tuetken of Oelwein, IO; a brother, Robert Boles of Heth, AR; and three sisters, Betty Randolph of Clarksville, Mary Sue Conner of Selmer, and Shirley Berry of Jonesboro, AR. PATRICIA LYNN NIXON WILSON of Henderson, 44, died Thurs., May 14, 2003 at Bolivar General Hospital. Mrs. Wilson worked for the State of Tennessee - T.B.I. Crime Lab. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alicia Nichole Wilson. She is survived by her parents, Rubel and Shirley Locke Nixon of Pocahontas; a grandparents, Dorothy Locke of Pocahontas; her husband, Danny Joe Wilson; and a son, Jeremy Michael Wilson and wife Jocelynn of Henderson. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith of Corinth, MS; a son, Randy W. Smith of Corinth, MS; two sisters, Mildred Brown of Luffin, TX and Faye Page and husband Paul of Bath Springs. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Rogers and husband Mike of Selmer; a twin sister, Kitty Kincaid of Ripley, MS and a brother, William Owen Kincaid of Santa Maria, CA. She had three grandchildren, Sam Rogers of Selmer, Merita Luther of Adamsville and Leah Ward of Memphis; and three gr-grandchildren. She was a retired employee of Blue Bell Company in Ripley, MS and a member of the First Baptist Church in Ripley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Homer Kincaid; her mother, Josie Lillian Floyd Carson; two sisters, Vickie Kincaid and Eunice Nettles; and a brother, Thomas Kincaid. She is survived by W. O. Kincaid of Santa Maria, CA; and a niece, Deborah Rogers and husband Johnny of Selmer. A graveside service was held on May 17th at Pleasant Site Cemetery near Ripley, MS. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley, MS was in charge of arrangements. ................. WILLIAM ELVIS HOCH of Adamsville, 47, died May 10, 2003 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Mr. Hoch was a self-employed auto body repairman. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He is survived by his father, Bill Hoch of Adamsville; a step-father, William Rockett of Memphis; his wife, Pat Hoch of Adamsville; two sons, Josh Hoch of Adamsville and Nathan Hoch of Cherry Point, NC; a brother, John Hoch of Memphis; and a sister, Sharon Waldan of Selmer. He had four grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Wed., May 14th at Love and Truth Church in Adamsville. Burial followed at Peace Chapel Cemetery in Scotts Hill. Mrs. Belk was a homemaker. She was a member of Germantown United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman J. Belk. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jo Belk McIntyre of Sparta. She had ten grandchildren. Memorial Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. LYNN BENNETT, 65, of Selmer, formerly of Middleton, died May 17, 2003 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The husband of Ruby Hodge Bennett, who survived, he was a sawmill worker. He was born on July 16, 1937 in Tipersville, MS, son of the late William Kelise Bennett and Mary Lee Nelson Bennett, and lived most of his life around the Middleton area, moving to McNairy County in the last ten years. Mr. Bennett was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and former member of Ebenezer Methodist in Tippah County. Services were 3 p.m. on May 20th at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Bolivar, with Mike Holloway officiating. Burial followed at Ebenezer Cemetery near Middleton. In addition to his wife, whom he married on Apr. 6, 1963, survivors include a daughter, Sadie Elizabeth Best of Selmer; four sons, Rickey Eugene Bennett of Henderson, Jerry Lynn Burns of Middleton, Danny Bennett of Parsons and Bobby Wayne Bennett of Mena, AR; six sisters, Marie Hodum and Diane Roten, both of Walnut, MS, Kay Holley of Tiplersville, MS Vassar Rogers of Metairie, LA, Bobbie Burgess and Nelda Swindle, both of Memphis; a brother, John R. Bennett of Walnut, MS; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Timmons and Madge Waldon. .................. FREEMAN MICHAEL AGNEW of Corinth, MS, 54, died May 11, 2003 at his residence. He attended Carver Elementary, Wick Anderson Jr. High School and graduated from Thrasher High in 1971. He was employed with Wurltizer Mfg. and Pancho of Corinth. He loved all sports and most enjoyed being with family and friends. He was a member of Central Grove MB Church of Kossuth, MS. He served as Chairman of Usher Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Lizzie Agnew; two sisters, Phyliss Agnew and Carolyn Robinson; and three brothers, Albert Agnew, William Agnew, and Howard Agnew. He is survived by a stepmother, Everline Agnew; a son, Victor Agnew of Corinth, MS; a daughter, Keisha Irons and husband Anthony of Michie; a sister, Eugenia Parlow of Detroit, MI; and three brothers, Oliver McDaffey Agnew of Corinth, MS, Harry Agnew of Tupelo, MS and Larry Agnew of Atlanta, GA. He had four grandchildren, Shanika Agnew, Thadius and Anthony Irons, and Marcus Kemp. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, with 10 years of service that included 2 tours of duty in Japan. He was a Certified OSHA Instructor and Consultant, who worked in many different locations in the United States, and also in China. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed helping others. He was an avid sports card collector and dealer. He was preceded in death by his father, David Erwin Sinclair; and his mother, Josephine Anna Brink Sinclair. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kay McCracken Sinclair of Stantonville; two daughters, Debra Schoffield of Deer Park, WA and Christine Sinclair Salisbury and husband Garry of Huffman, TX; three sons, Walter Sinclair and Michael Sinclair, both of Ft. Smith, AR and Joseph Sinclair of Stantonville; a brother, Curtis Sinclair of Black Creek, NY; and a sister, Donna Chase of Del Rio, TX. He had seven grandchildren, including Airman Dillon Salisbury of the U.S. Air Force at McGuire AFB, New Jersey, and Mark Anthony Sinclair of Ft. Smith, AR; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. She was a homemaker and attended the Corinth First Pentecostal Church. She is survived by her husband, James Rebstock of Michie; her parents, Lee and Fannie Harrison Harben of Guys; twos sons, heath Rebstock of Martin and Luke Barnes of Michie; two daughters, Heather Rebstock of Michie and Holly Crum and husband Jason of Michie; a brother, Willey Harben and wife Lisa of Guys; two nephew, "Little Willey" Harben and T. J. Harben; a niece, Ginna Harbe, all of Guys. She had two grandchildren, Jacob Crum and Gracie Crum, both of Michie. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. ............. NORMAN DWIGHT TAYLOR of Selmer, 57, died May 23, 2003 at Hardin County General Hospital. Mr. Taylor was disabled. He was a member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Parvin and Imogene Marler Taylor. He is survived by a daughter, Jana Mauldin of Hendersonville; and one son, Heath Taylor of Henderson. He had five grandchildren, Matt Mauldin, Marcus Mauldin, Jenny Beth Mauldin, Mallory Mauldin and Kaitlynn Taylor. HENRY of Ramer, 89, died May 19, 2003 at Tri-County Convalescent Home. Mr. Henry was a farmer. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Mathiston, MS. He is survived by his wife, Annie Henry; and three stepdaughters, Betty Jones of Selmer, Rebecca Spitz of Annapolis, MD and Judith Cooper of Paulies, SC. He had seven grandchildren, six gr-grandchildren and three gr-gr-grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Adamsville, a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, a Mason, and a member of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Lancaster Coffman of Adamsville; two sons, Billy Mitchell Coffman and Jack Coffman, both of Adamsville; one granddaughter, Angela Ricketts of Clearwater, FL and a step-granddaughter, Chasteti Plunk of Wilmington, NC.
