B. (PEE WEE) McCULLAR, formerly of Selmer, died Sun., Aug. 18, 2002 at his home in Somerset, PA after an eighteen-month bout with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean He is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann and Jean Ann of Somerset; four grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Luther and Robert of Gleason and Jimmy of Selmer; and a sister, Gladys Barham of Memphis. He will be best remembered for his basketball skills and was a member of the 1952 State Championship Basketball Team of Selmer. .............. CYNTHIA ELAINE MARLAR GOOCH of Selmer, 50, died Aug. 19, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Gooch was a retired day care operator. She was a former Justice Court Judge for Tishomingo County, MS and a former member of the Marlar Family Gospel Group (vocals and piano). She is survived by her parents, Clifton Marlar of Burnsville, MS and Libbie Marlar of Burnsville, MS; her husband, Johnny Gooch of Selmer; a son, Jeremy Crane of Adamsville; two daughters, Anitra Rea of Russellville, AL and Christy Gooch of Selmer; a step-daughter, Kim Wright of Cordova; and two sisters, Pat Smith of Burnsville, MS and Lynn Farris of Nettleton, MS. She had two grandchildren, Gracie Crane of Adamsville and Kailey Wright of Cordova. PAULINE LUCILLE MARCLE HATCH of Bethel Springs, 85, died of heart failure on Sat., Aug. 17, 2002 at Chester County Healthcare in Henderson. Mrs. Hatch was a homemaker and a member of Mitchell's Chapel Baptist Church. She was born in Weakley County, daughter of the late Charlie Alexander and Nora Bell Arnold Marcle. She attended schools in Chester County, and in 1935 was married to Basil Manley Hatch of the Woodville Community. They farmed and operated a gin in the Woodville Community until retirement in 1970. Mr. Hatch died in 1984. She is survived by four sons, Jimmy O. Hatch of Creve Coeur, IL and Willie Hatch, Paul J. Hatch, and Tony Hatch all of Bethel Springs; two step-sons, Clelle Hatch of E. Peoria, IL and Colon Hatch of Whiteville; a daughter, Jeanette Thompson and husband Jeff of Henderson; and a sister, Charlie Bell Parker of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Crabb and Anner Bright Crabb; her husband, John Dee Henson; two sisters, Ollie Reed and Fannie Wooten; and four brothers, Alonzo Crabb, Leaburn Crabb, Leland Crabb, and Lester Crabb. She is survived by two sons, John William (Billy) Henson of Bolivar and Leslie Henson of Middleton; three daughters, Peggy Jean Henson and Emodene H. Smith, both of Ramer, and Mary Frances Suggs of Chewalla; three brothers, Leonard Crabb of Ramer, L. G. Crabb and Carl Crabb, both of Chewalla. He attended Chewalla Baptist Church. He was preceded in heath by his parents, Johnny and Ollie Jernigan Teague; and a brother, Buford Teague. He is survived by his wife of 63 ½ years, Lou Venia Cardwell Teague; a son, Benny Teague of Ramer; a daughter-in-law, Brylene Teague of Ramer; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Dancer Teague of Bartlett; three grandchildren, Bart Teague and wife Audra of Humboldt, and Delise Teague and Emily Layne, both of Ramer; and seven gr-grandchildren, Hannah Gillentine, Jordan Gillentine, Jacob Prather, Mary Beth Prather, Avery Teague, Brady Teague and Callie Teague. He attended Center Ridge Pentecostal Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian Berry. He is survived by his wife, Ann Laughlin Berry; a son, Kenny Berry of Pocahontas; two daughters, Mary Lowrance of Bethel Springs and Kim Bizzell; and a sister, Bessie Wheatley of Big Sandy. She was Pentecostal in faith. She was born and reared in Hardin County, near Sardis, the daughter of the late Will and Corda Hollin Blackstock. She attended school in Hardin County and in 1944 was married to William A. Johnson. They lived 10 years in St. Louis, MO, but lived most of their lives in Chester County. She had worked at Chester County Nursing Home as an aide. They also worked in Security at Heritage Towers, and she did private duty nurse's aide work with people in their homes. She is survived by her husband, William Alex Johnson of Henderson; three sons, Larry Blackstock of Milledgeville, Jerry Johnson of Ramer and Danny Johnson of Wesley Chapel, FL: three daughters, Katie Hamm of Jackson, MS, Sharon Midgett of Cartersville, GA, and Pamela Thomas of Medon; a brother, Thomas O. Blackstock of Crump; and two sisters, Alice Davis of Savannah and Jean Blackstock of Milledgeville. She had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three gr-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard Rowsey and Beulah Mae Smith Rowsey Austin. PATRICIA HELMS of North Richland Hills, TX, 57, a receptionist at North Richland Hills Baptist Church, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and friends on Wed., Sept. 4, 2002. Patricia was born in Jackson on Jan. 16, 1945, but soon moved to Fort Worth, TX, where she spent most of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Gordon Clinard and her husband, Earl Helms. HARVIE ANDERSON BRIGGS of Booneville, MS died Mon., Sept. 2, 2002, at West Tennessee Skilled Nursing Facility in Jackson. He was born Aug. 17, 1925 in Corinth, the son of Kelsey and Callie Johnson Briggs. He was a retired cemetery employee. He enjoyed working in his yard and collecting coins, especially silver dollars. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Effie Briggs. ............. JOE BROWN WILKINS, 76, died Sun., Sept 1, 2002 at his residence. He was a veteran of World War II serving his county in Germany and Japan. He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Adamsville. He entered into the insurance business with Life of Georgia Insurance Company and acquired the designation of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He then opened his own agency in Adamsville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Adamsville. His parents, Richard and Nora Wilkins, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Joan Buck Wilkins of Adamsville, a sister Jane McKee of Nashville, and children Donna Forbess of McKenzie and Lowe Wilkins of Chattanooga. He had four grandchildren, Amanda Fortune, Julia Kirkland, Ryan Forbes and Connor Wilkins; and five gr-grandchildren, Patrick Harris, Kayla Kirkland, Zachary Fortune, Madison Fortune, and Darren Kirkland. Y. and Gracie Russom Hurst; her husband, Gordon Estel Rowland; two brothers, K. Y. Hurst and Milton Hurst; a grandson, Dale Rhodes, Sr.; and a gr-granddaughter, Allyson Dayle Rhodes. FAYE CHRISTOPHER DAVIS of Adamsville, 94, died Sept. 4, 2002 at Methodist LeBonheur McNairy Hospital. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Vinson Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Virgil Smith Christopher; her husband, William Alfred Davis; and two sons, Richard Earl Davis and William Jamie Davis. She is survived by six daughters, Dorothy Tedford, Marylene Kopp, and Peggy Lard, all of Adamsville, Margaret Scott of Selmer, Betty Duck of Morris Chapel, and Shelby Kennedy of Ramer; one brother, Earl Christopher of Phoenix, AR; two half-brothers, Gene Christopher of Phoenix, AR and Arnold Christopher of Bethel Springs; a half-sister, Modean Burton of Phoenix, AR; and a step-sister, Jewell Milford of Stantonville. She had twenty-four grandchildren, twelve gr-grandchildren and two gr-gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Fri., Sept. 6, at Mt. Vinson Methodist Church, with Minister Glen Scott officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vinson Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ................... JAMES MCFARLAND, JR. of Bethel Springs, 46, died Sept. 2, 2002 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, MS. Mr. McFarland worked in the Proctor & Gamble Materials Department. He attended Faith Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran. He is survived by his parents, Jim McFarland, Sr. and Jean Stricklen McFarland of Bethel Springs; his wife, Janice Goff McFarland; two daughters, Brianna McFarland and Christina McFarland, both of Bethel Springs; two stepsons, Billy Ray and Jason Ray, both of Jackson; a sister, Jayme McFarland of Casco, MI; and an uncle and aunt, Paul Denchik and Kathleen Denchik of Round Rock, TX. Mr. Matlock was a school bus driver and farmer. He is survived by his mother, Floy Matlock of Savannah; his wife, Shirley Watts Matlock of Morris Chapel; a daughter, Lisa Burks of Morris Chapel; a son, Jimmy Matlock of Morris Chapel; three sisters, Oma Jen Ratliff of Morris Chapel, Lou Jane Essary of Savannah and Martha Rinks of Crump; and four brothers, J. D. Matlock and Joe Matlock, both of Savannah, Charles Matlock of Sardis and Jerry Wayne Matlock of Selmer. He had four grandchildren. (PEE WEE) McCULLAR, formerly of Selmer, died Sun., Aug. 18, 2002 at his home in Somerset, PA after an eighteen-month bout with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean He is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann and Jean Ann of Somerset; four grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Luther and Robert of Gleason and Jimmy of Selmer; and a sister, Gladys Barham of Memphis. He will be best remembered for his basketball skills and was a member of the 1952 State Championship Basketball Team of Selmer. .............. CYNTHIA ELAINE MARLAR GOOCH of Selmer, 50, died Aug. 19, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Gooch was a retired day care operator. She was a former Justice Court Judge for Tishomingo County, MS and a former member of the Marlar Family Gospel Group (vocals and piano). She is survived by her parents, Clifton Marlar of Burnsville, MS and Libbie Marlar of Burnsville, MS; her husband, Johnny Gooch of Selmer; a son, Jeremy Crane of Adamsville; two daughters, Anitra Rea of Russellville, AL and Christy Gooch of Selmer; a step-daughter, Kim Wright of Cordova; and two sisters, Pat Smith of Burnsville, MS and Lynn Farris of Nettleton, MS. She had two grandchildren, Gracie Crane of Adamsville and Kailey Wright of Cordova. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wed., Aug 21 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, with Ministers Paul Mullikin and Donnie BoBo officiating.
