Freeman, age 67, a resident of the Cypress community, died on Saturday, September 8, 1951. Services were held at McCalip's Chapel on September 10, and burial was in the cemetery there. The deceased was a Baptist, and a Mason, affiliated with Adams Lodge No. 264, Middleton, TN. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Freeman; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Matlock, Mrs. Estell Jernigan, and Mrs. Marie Morgan; three sons, Howard Hollis and Roy Lee Freeman; 25 grandchildren; three brothers, Charlie, Joe, and Andrew Freeman; 3 sisters, Mrs. Callie Millsaps, Mrs. Sarah Craig, Mrs Martha Freeman. ----------------------------- LUTHER ALBERT WALKER Mr. Luther A. Walker, age 67, died at his residence in Bethel Springs on Thursday, August 30th, 1951. He was a Missionary Baptist. Funeral services were held at Mars Hill on August 31, and burial was in the cemetery there. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ecard Treece, Mrs. Russell Plunk, and Mrs. L.G. Watson; and five sons, Vardell, H.A., Luther W., J.B. and Reyburn Walker. NOTE: Luther A. Walker is my son-in-law's great grandfather. Please contact me if this is your family so we can share information. ----------------------------- HARRY M. RAY Mr. Harry M. Ray, who has been living in Selmer for the past few years, died on September 10, 1951. So far as we have been able to learn, Mr. Ray had no living relatives. Until his health failed Mr. Ray operated a stand on Count Avenue, near the bus station and sold novelties. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Lloyd W. Ramer, was held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, September 11. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. ----------------------------- KERMIT GLIDEWELL Mr. Kermit Glidewell, age 42, died on August 26, 1951, as a result of an automobile accident. He resided of RFD Selmer, near the Stantonville community. Funeral services, conducted by Bro. Moore, of Corinth, Miss., were held at Pebble Hill on August 27, with burial in the Pebble Hill Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Letha Glidewell; and two children, Mattie Lee and Truman Glidewell; mother, Mrs. Ollie Glidewell; and two sisters, Mrs. Cleo Carter and Mrs. Amanda Moore. INFANT WHITLOW Infant Whitlow, child of Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Whitlow, of Selmer died on August 25, 1951. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery on August 26. ----------------------------- DOLPHUS P. NICHOLS Mr. Dolphus P. Nichols, age 69, a resident of the Bethel Springs community, died on Friday, August 31, 1951. Services conducted by Rev. Stafford Dees, were held in the Sulphur Springs church on September 1, and burial was in the cemetery there. Mr. Nichols was a Methodist. The deceased is survived by four sisters, Mrs. J.M. Causey, Mrs. Jim Barnes, Mrs. Duke Ferguson, and Mrs. L.D. Locke; also one brother, W.R. Nichols. INFANT MOORE The infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Moore of Selmer was laid to rest in the Pebble Hill cemetery on Saturday, September 1, 1951. ----------------------------- WILLIAM S. SWEAT Mr. William S. Sweat, age 83, died at his home near Falcon (Route 3, Selmer) on Wednesday, September 12, 1951. He had been making his home with a son, Roy D. Sweat. Bro. Smith had charge of the funeral services, which were held at the Falcon church on September 13. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Burnice Floyd and Mrs. Thelma Morgan; four sons, Bob, Coleman, Bonnie, and Roy D. Sweat; and nineteen grandchildren. Mr. Sweat was of the Baptist belief. ----------------------------- McNAIRY COUNTY INDEPENDENT - Selmer, TN - December 30, 1965 SERVICES FOR MRS. PLUNK SUNDAY Services for Mrs. Fayette Maudie Plunk, 76, of Adamsville were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Crump Methodist Church with burial in the Crump cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors was in charge. Mrs. Plunk was a member of the Crump Methodist Church and had spent most of her life in McNairy County. She was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Kennyson Waggoner. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. P.L. Tacker of Selmer and Mrs. George T. Moore of Adamsville; two sons, Russell Plunk of Martin and Myrel Plunk of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Gibler of Alva, Okla; a brother, Floyd Waggoner of Forest Grove, Ore. ----------------------------- MRS. DERRYBERRY RITES SUNDAY Mrs. Mamie Pearl Derryberry, 75, widow of Alvin D. Derryberry, died Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Moore of Wenasoga, Miss. Services were at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday at the Antioch Church of Christ near Ramer, with Shackelford in charge. She also leaves a son, Brooks Derryberry of Ramer. ----------------------------- OVERTON RITES HELD SUNDAY Lester Earl Overton, 67, of Selmer, a retired railroad employee, died Saturday at his home after a heart attack. Services were at 3 P.M. Sunday at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo with burial in Alamo Cemetery. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sally Mays Overton; two sons, Ted Overton of Memphis and Earl Mays Overton of Corinth; a daughter, Mrs. Martha Summer of Memphis; a brother, Willie John Overton of Jackson; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Beth Stallings of Alamo and Mrs. Annie Bell Hart of Bells. ----------------------------- SCLEETA PLUNK HUDSON MARTIN - Mrs. Scleeta Plunk Hudson, 89 of Martin, died Tuesday, November 25, 1997, at Volunteer General Hospital, Martin. Services will be a 1 p.m. Friday at Mars Chapel Church of Christ in Leapwood with Elder Houston Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Mars Chapel Cemetery in Leapwood. Friends my call at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday. Grandson served as pallbearers. Mrs. Hudson was born November 14, 1908, in Adamsville, daughter of the late Luther and Mollie Harris Walker. She was a homemaker and a member of the Macedonai Primitive Baptist Church, Martin. She was the widow of Russell Plunk and Taft Hudson. Survivors include four sons, Doyles W. Plunk and Ronald Plunk, both of Martin, L.C. Plunk and James Plunk, both of Sharon; four daughters, Mrs. Leatrice Copeland of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Davie Ashe of Adamsville, Mrs. Erlene Cantrell of Martin, and Mrs. Dorothy Leggins of Kingston; five stepsons, Larry Hudson of Reagan, Kenneth Hudson and W.T. Hudson, both of Sardin, Dwight Hudson of Lexington and Jerry Hudson of Beech Bluff; two step daughters, Mrs. Jimmie Tucker of Inville and Mrs. Karen Woodard of Reagan; a brother, Reburn Walker of Adamsville; two sisters, Mrs. Lavon Treese of Adamsville and Mrs. Florence Watson of Florida; and 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a great, great grandson, 14 step-grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren. -----------------------------
