LAND FOR SALE FOR TAXES

I, Christian Peters, Sheriff or Collector of the Public Taxes for the county of McMinn, do hereby report to the Court the following Tracts of Land, Town Lots and parts of Town Lots, as having been given in for the Taxes for the years 1849 and 1850; that the Taxes thereon remain due and unpaid, and the respective owners or claimants thereof have no good or chattels within my county on which I can distrain for said taxes, to wit:

 

Armsted Breedwelt- one tract of land, 160 acres, lying in Civil District No. 8, valued at $80 -tax for the year 1949, 21 cts, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1- total $4.21.

 

Thomas W. Johnson- Two town lots in the town of Athens, 7th civil district, valued at $600 – tax for 1850 1.38, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1- total $5.38.

 

Spencer Jarnagin, Trustee- 229 acres of land, in the 7th civil district, valued at $2500, and two town lots in the town of Athens, valued at $2000, in all $4500- tax for 1850 $10.35, clerks fee $1.50, pr’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1- $14.35.

 

A L. Coffman- One tract of land, 40 acres in the 10th civil district, valued at $50- tax for 1850 11 ½, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1- total $4.11 ½.

 

Aaron Parker- 1 tract of land, 70 acres, in District No. 11, valued at $100- tax for 1850 23 cts, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1- total $4.23.

 

Calvin Post- Several tracts of land, 1100 acres, in district No. 13, valued at $100- tax for 1849 26 ½ c, for 1850 23c, in all 49 ½ c, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collectors fee $1- total $4.49 ½ .

Nation’s Heirs- One tract of land, 200 acres, in district No 13, valued at $50-tax for 1850 13 ½ cts, clerks fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1-total 4.13 ½.

 

M.M Lower- One tract of land, 140 acres in district No. 13, valued at $300-tax for 1849 79 ½ cts.; the same charged to Michael Lower Sr., in 1850, tax 69 cts., in all $1.48 ½, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50, collector’s fee $1-total $4.74.

 

Wm Swinford- 1 tract of land, 40 acres, in district No. 13, valued at $40-tax for 1849 10 ½ cts, clerk’s fee $1.50, printer’s fee $1.50,collector’s fee $1-total $4.69.

 

Whereupon it is considered by the Court that judgment be and it is hereby entered against the aforesaid tracts of land, town lots and parts of town lots, in the name of the State of Tennessee, for the sum annexed to each, being the amount of taxes, cost and charges due severally thereon, for the years 1849 and 1850, and it is ordered by the Court that the several tracts of land, and town lots and parts of town lots or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to satisfy the taxes, cost and charges annexed to them severally, be sold as the law directs, and that an order of sale issue.

NOTICE- I will sell to the highest bidder for Cash, at the Court- house door in Athens, on Monday, the 7th day of July next, all the foregoing tracts of land and town lots and parts of town lots, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to pay and satisfy the cost and charges due thereon.
