among the first families to settle in Bradley County, TN.
A black circle marks the 380 acre of the Roberts farm, owned
to day by Curtis Housley and his wife. They run a dairy farm
and live in the house that Nehemiah built during the 1830’s
and 1840’s

I did the best I knew how to get as much information as I could on all the descendents of Nehemiah and Elizabeth Roberts but I was unable to get information on a lot of the family in the last two or three generations so I added lines after the names of the persons that I didn’t know the names of their spouses or children.

(3) Mary F (Roberts) McRee born Sept, 1833 in Bledsoe Co TN and died some time before 1910 in Wyandotte, Wyandotte Co, Kansas. She married before 1860 to ---? --- McRee who died on or shortly after there wedding night. Mary never remarried. --- No Children but one is in house with Mary on the 1880 census. Anna Humphrey age 7.

The First Generation
(4) Hugh L. Roberts was first thought to be a twin of Mary F born Sept, 1833 according to the 1900 Kansas census. On the 1850 census Mary is age 17 an Hugh age 17 and on the 1860 census Mary is age 27 and Hugh is age 27 the 1870 census Mary is age 33 and Hugh is age 37 and the 1880 census Mary is age 45 and Hugh is age 50, but Hugh was born in 1834 in Bledsoe Co TN, according to his pension application.
He died after 1897 some where in TN, or AL. (No proof) Hugh married in about 1857 to Jane Swafford born 1834 in Bledsoe Co, and died before 1897 in TN. She was the daughter of Alfred Allen and China (Segraves) Swafford.

A book written in 1866 called, THE HISTORY OF THE
REBELION IN BRADLEY CO East TN. by J.S. Hurlburt
This book suggests that James died in Dalton GA. Recovering from a gunshot wound and was accidently shot again and died, but the book also said that the story may have been fabricated so James could escape from union soldiers, who were looking for hem and his brother George W. Roberts for the murder of two union men, in Bradley Co, TN. (The complete story is reprinted in my book)
