It is now fifteen years since Tennessee sent the choicest of its young men to war

These links lead to a list of people from Tennessee who paid the ultimate price in World War I

It is now fifteen years since Tennessee sent the choicest of its young men to war. The Division of History of the Department of Education, local chairmen in every county, and the United States authorities, have combined in efforts to at least record the names of all those from the State who made the supreme sacrifice in the World War. This roster is now reasonably complete and is subjoined to these paragraphs. As has been indicated nearly 100,000 men and women were engaged in varied war services, and of these more than 4,000 lost their lives. Only the names can be given here, a meager contribution to the memories of the dead, for whose sacrifice we must never fail in appreciation and gratitude.    Philip M. Hamer, Ph.
