on hills overlooking the town from the Southwest.
Winter Camp

the Union Army of the Ohio was encamped in this area, and south
along the railroad towards Red Clay, during 1863-64.
Ooltewah Blockhouse
A Union blockhouse
guarded the railroad station and the Wolftever Creek trestle on the
East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad.
Charleston Redoubt (1863 - 1864)
A
redoubt was located by the Hiwassee River overlooking the railroad
bridge, along with blockhouses on both ends of the bridge from
Calhoun.
