Monthly Meeting Update

Reunions and Festivals

Reunions are a great place to find photos of ancestors, friends, and old documents.  If you would like to have your reunion posted on our website, send information to editor Martha Jon Clark, and we will get the when, where, and family names involved posted.

Reunion: Price, Brooks, Jones, Davis, etc. will be held at Rogersville Rescue Squad building on Sept. 16, 2017 beginning around 10:00am. Bring all old pictures, books, and share. There will be lots and lots of pictures that you may copy, books to purchase and lots of books to view. There will be lots of researched family histories present. Contact Joe Davis at (865) 705-1412 for further information. He knows everything and just about everyone!

Reunion: New Salem School will be held on grounds of old New Salem School in Rogersville, TN on Sept. 23, 2017. There are still a few of the original school mates attending. I usually go because my Daddy went to school there, so I get to enjoy visiting with everyone. Food, fellowship, and photos will be shared. Starts about 11:00 am.

Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival has been rescheduled due to bad weather to September 29-30, 2017. Block party will be on Friday night and booths will be open on Saturday beginning at 10:00 until 4:00 pm. Hawkins County Geneology and Historical Society will have a booth with books, pamphlets, copies of Distant Crossroads, etc. Please stop by and say Hi to our group there.

HCGHS Annual Picnic  This was held at Church Hill park on Aug. 8, 2017. Approximately 20 persons enjoyed good food, conversation, and friends.

Festivals:   Surgoinsville Festival September 29-Oct. 1, 2017. We gave away lots of previous issues of Distant Crossroads to people passing by our booth. It was a beautiful day and the location was great. It was a real downhome fun time. Martha Clark and Peggy Cook and myself (Carol) helped with the booth in the morning.

Rogersville Heritage Days Oct.13-15, 2017. The Genealogical Society set up in George Webb's (Hawkins County Historian) shop down on Church St. We had lots of visitors looking for old books about TN, trials, and families from this area. Several of visitors were from many different states; some looking for information while others were checking out Rogersville for retirement options.
