Confederate General John Hunt Morgan Steel engraving of Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan; as stated at the lower left corner of the sheet, this was published by Geo E. Perine
Nothing in the history of Greeneville during the Civil War is more controversial than the death of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan. Depending on the source, he was killed while trying to escape the Union Army, murdered by the Union Army or escaped and lived his life in Oklahoma as John Hunt Cole. One problem with this link is that it has John Hunt Morgan being captured at the Williams house in Kentucky instead of Tennessee. This account is based on the book Southern by the Grace of God by Michael Andrew Grissom.
