Last Will and Testament
of John Cannon

Giles Co., Tennessee
Given 3 August 1830

Know all men by these present that I John Cannon of the State of Tennessee and County of Giles Being weak in body but in perfect mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz.

1st I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife, Hannah Cannon, the whole of my land on which I now live during her lifetime or widowhood and at her death or marriage the above named land is to belong to my son Henry B. Cannon and the said Henry is to have privilege to settle on said land at any time he pleases.

2nd I give unto said beloved Wife my two Negro girls Sucress (??) and Mellindia together with my live stock farming utensils and all my household and kitchen furniture and together all my personally property of whatsoever nature it may be during her life or widowhood; Except two feather beds and furniture.

3rd I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughters Sophia Cannon and Lovicy Cannon each one good feather bed and furniture a piece.

4th At the death or marriage of my said wife Hannah, my will and desire is that my three beloved daughters Sophia Cannon and Winney Hewitt and Lovicy Cannon should have fifty dollars each before any other division should take place.

5th and lastly my will and desire is that my two Negro girls livestock and all farming utensils together with all personal property to be divided equally among my Children. To wit: Sophia Cannon, Henry B. Cannon, Lucy Thomas, Richardson W. Cannon, Winney Hewitt, and Lovicy Cannon at the death or marriage of my said wife Hannah Cannon, and I hereby appoint my wife Hannah Cannon and Henry B. Cannon sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty.
