Daniel Boone Cutbirth

Daniel (Ol Dan'l ) Boone Cutbirth was born about 1762 in Rowan Co. NC. Daniel's mother was a sister to Daniel Boone, and his father Ben, was a noted Longhunter with Daniel Boone. During the American Revolutionary War, 16 year old Daniel Cutbirth, with the help of several friends, had the opportunity to ambush a raiding band of Tory soldiers who had visited the Cutbirths and taken advantage of their hospitality with rude behavior and by abusing 'Ol Ben, who was ill at the time.

Daniel and a friend followed the band and recaptured one of their prisoners,a well-known local leader of the Revolutionary, as well as capture the leader of the raiders, who was later executed by hanging because of his actions.

Daniel B. Cutbirth married Elizabeth Coleman before 1785, when his first son, Benjamin Cutbirth was born. He followed his parents, and the family of one of his mother's brothers to Maury Co. TN in about 1807, where his father and mother passed on, 1814-17 and 1818 respectively.

On Oct 5, 1819, Daniel B. Cutbirth Sr. signs a land speculators petition, and remains in Giles County until the time of his death in about 1839. Daniel is said to have been buried in the Gibsonville Cemetary near his mother's family, the Coleman's. He owned and operated a sawmill on his land on Big Creek.
