| This is the Will of William MATHIS, died 12-06-1847 in Gibson county, TN; married to Lydia CARLTON, who died
in Gibson county in June 1857. WILLIAM MATHIS WILL recorded in Bond and Will Book 1846-1852, December term 1847, Gibson County, Tennessee. Gibson County Court House, Trenton, TN I, William Mathis of the State of Tennessee and County of Gibson do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following - that my wife Lyda Mathis shall have seventy-five acres of land to include the house and well and to have Linda and her child, Thomas Jefferson an increase and the choice horse and her saddle and bridle, two cows and calves, three feather beds and furniture and farming utensils sufficient to make a crop and sufficiency of hogs to make her pork for the next year and a sufficiency of sugar and coffee to last her during life and shelf ware and cooking utensils sufficient for her use, one clock, one dozen chairs, bureau, two pairs of andirons, one smoothing iron and spinning wheel and flax wheel and cards tubes and barrels sufficient to do her all of which at her death shall fall back in the hands of my executors and shall be sold and the amount equal divided between Elizabeth, Elisha, Thomas, Carlton, William, Jacob, Lebanon D. Mathis, Mahala C. Weatherspoon, Angeline T. Sexton and Edwin Mathis after paying all my just debts, James Mathis, I having given forty dollars, Jackson C. Mathis I have given thirty-two dollars, Cyrus and Nancy Webb I give five dollars besides the amount they have received: Fepha Berry I give one dollar besides the amount received. All my lands and other property besides the portion that I will to my wife to be immediately sold and equally divided between the nine just named heirs after paying my debts and expenses to wit: Elisha, Thomas, Carlton, William, Jacob, Edwin, Lebanon D. Mathis, Mahala C. Weatherspoon, Angeline T. Sexton. This is my last will and testament revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore make and my desire and will is that Elisha Mathis my oldest son and Lebanon D. Mathis my youngest be my executors - in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 22nd of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty-six. Signed sealed and published and delivered to be the last will and testament of the above William Mathis in presence of us who at his request in his presence have hereunto subscribed our names as witness to the same. Mathis, Thomas E. Hall, and Alvin Senter are held and firmly bound unto Neill S. Brown Esq. Governor of the state of Tennessee and his successors in office as the just and full sum of three thousand dollars for the payment of which will and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly severally and firmly by these present sealed with our seals and dated this 6th day of December 1847. The condition of the above obligation is such that where as the above bound E. Mathis and L. D. Mathis have this day taken upon themselves the burded and execution of the will of William Mathis deceased now of the said E. Mathis and L. D,. Mathis will and truly execute the same by paying first the debts of the said deceased and then the legacies contained in said will as far as the assets may come unto their hands will execute and the same charge them and make a true and perfect inventory of the goods chattels of the deceased and return the same as prescribed by law through this obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.
